Kolkata lose to Dhoni-led CSK

CSK made no changes to their playing eleven.

KKR made a couple of changes to their playing (Mork)eleven – Manvinder Bisla and Morne made way for Yusuf Pathan and Andre Russell.

On winning the toss, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s skipper and the local boy, chose to bat.

It was a 17-overs-a-side match.

The first Powerplay of CSK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the fifth over. They scored 33, and lost a wicket.

Dwayne Smith, whose 11-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 16. Fifteen balls into the match, he was trapped leg before wicket by Shakib Al Hasan, who broke the 20-run stand.

CSK scored 50 off seven overs (42 balls). KKR had conceded an extra at that point.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 37 balls. While Brendon McCullum’s contribution to the partnership was 34, Suresh Raina’s contribution to it was 16. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

Raina, whose 25-ball innings included four boundaries and a six, eventually scored 31. Forty-nine balls after Smith’s dismissal, he was caught by Suryakumar Yadav. Shakib broke the 70-run partnership.

CSK scored 100 off 11,4 overs (70 balls). KKR had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

McCullum’s half-century – which included five boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 32 balls.

He eventually scored 56 off 40 balls. Twenty-three balls after Raina’s dismissal, he was caught by Yusuf. Russell broke the 29-run stand.

Dhoni, whose 17-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 22. He was unbeaten.

Ravindra Jadeja, the player of the match, scored 17, which included a boundary and a six. He was unbea‘ten’.

KKR eventually conceded half-a-dozen extras. CSK scored 148 for the loss of three wickets off 17 overs.

Jacques Kallis, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded 10.

Piyush Chawla and Vinay Kumar bowled three wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 31, the latter conceded 26.

Sunil Narine, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 26.

Russell, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 25. He picked up a wicket.

Shakib, who bowled four overs, conceded 25. He picked up a couple of scalps.

The first Powerplay of KKR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the fifth over. They scored 38, and lost a couple of wickets.

Their openers put on 17. Gautam Gambhir, their skipper, scored half-a-dozen. His run-a-ball innings included a boundary.  Fifteen balls into the chase, Dhoni and Ben Hilfenhaus ran him out.

Kallis, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored four. His runs came by way of a boundary. Fourteen balls later, he was caught by Mithun Manhas. Ravichandran Ashwin broke the 19-run stand.

Manish Pandey, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Three balls later, he was caught by McCullum. Jadeja broke the two-run stand.

The fourth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Shakib, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, he was caught by Mohit Sharma off the bowling of Jadeja.

KKR scored 50 off 7.1 overs (44 balls). CSK had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Suryakumar, who faced 13 balls, scored eight. Twenty-five balls after Shakib’s dismissal, he was trapped leg before wicket by Jadeja, who broke the 37-run stand.

Uthappa, whose 38-ball (Rob)innings included five boundaries and a six, scored 47. Twenty-five balls later, he was caught by Dhoni. Jadeja broke the 23-run stand.

Russell, who faced five balls, scored a run. Mohit had a reason to be in seventh heaven – he trapped him leg before wicket, breaking the three-run stand.

KKR scored 100 off 15.2 overs (93 balls). CSK had conceded four extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Chawla, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Ten balls after Russell’s dismissal, he was caught by Faf du Plessis. Mohit broke the 22-run stand.

The ninth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Yusuf, whose 29-ball innings included a boundary and four sixes, scored 41. The next ball, he was trapped leg before wicket by Mohit.

Vinay, who didn’t face a ball, was unbeaten, as was Narine, who faced a ball, scoring a run.

KKR, who scored 114 for the loss of nine wickets off 17 overs, lost by 34 runs.

Raina, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded 10.

Ishwar Pandey, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded 20.

Hilfenhaus, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 26.

Ashwin, who bowled four overs, conceded 21. He picked up a wicket.

Mohit, who bowled three overs, conceded 22. He picked up three wickets.

Jadeja, who bowled four overs, conceded a dozen. He picked up four scalps.
