Rohit-led MI relieved; Punjab disappointed

MI made one change to their playing eleven – Pragyan Ojha made way for Jasprit Bumrah.

KXIP made no changes to their playing eleven.

On winning the toss, George Bailey, KXIP’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 36, and lost a couple of wickets.

KXIP’s openers put on 13. Virender Sehwag, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Fourteen balls into the (Shar)match, Rohit, MI’s skipper, ran him out.

Cheteshwar Pujara, whose 18-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 19. Eight balls later, he was caught by Chidhambaram Gautam. Corey Anderson, the player of the match, scored the 11-run stand.

KXIP scored 50 off 7.5 overs (48 balls). MI had conceded five extras at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 42 balls. While Wriddhiman Saha’s contribution to the partnership was 11, Glenn Maxwell’s contribution to it was 35. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was four.

Maxwell, whose 27-ball innings included five boundaries and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 45. Fifty balls after Pujara’s dismissal, he was caught by Ben Dunk. Harbhajan Singh broke the 69-run partnership.

KXIP scored 100 off 12.5 overs (78 balls). MI had conceded nine extras at that point.

Bailey, whose 14-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 14. Twenty-four balls after Maxwell’s dismissal, he was caught by Anderson. Harbhajan broke the 37-run stand.

KXIP scored 150 off 18.1 overs (110 balls). MI had conceded nine extras at that point.

David Miller, whose 12-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 16. Twenty-two balls after Bailey’s dismissal, he was caught by Dunk. Malinga broke the (Lasi)thirty-five-run stand.

The wicketkeeper’S(a)half-century – which included four boundaries and three sixes – came off 43 balls.

He eventually scored 59 off 47 balls. He was unbeaten, as was Mitchell Johnson, who faced a ball, failing to get off the mark.

MI eventually conceded 13 extras. KXIP scored 168 for the loss of five wickets off 20 overs.

Kieron Pollard, who bowled 15 wicketless balls, conceded 32.

Zaheer Khan, who bowled 21 wicketless balls, conceded 28.

Bumrah, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 25.

Anderson, who bowled two overs, conceded 17. He picked up a wicket, as did Malinga, who bowled four overs, conceding 25.

Harbhajan, who bowled four overs, conceded 34. He picked up two scalps.

Dunk, whose four-ball innings included a boundary, scored five. Five balls into the chase, he was caught behind. Sandeep Sharma broke the Saha-run stand.

Ambati Rayudu, who faced five balls, scored eight. His runs came by way of boundaries. A dozen balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Sandeep, who broke the 17-run stand.

MI scored 50 off 6.1 overs (37 balls). KXIP had conceded three extras at that point.

Gautam, whose 29-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes, scored 33. Forty-one balls after Rayudu’s dismissal, he was trapped leg before by Rishi Dhawan, who broke the 47-run stand.

MI scored 100 off 12.4 overs (76 balls). KXIP had conceded four extras at that point.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 34 balls. While Rohit’s contribution to the partnership was 19, Anderson’s contribution to it was 33. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

Rohit, whose 34-ball innings included four boundaries and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 39. Thirty-five balls after Gautam’s dismissal, he was caught by Saha. Lakshmipathy Balaji broke the 53-run partnership.

Anderson, whose 25-ball innings included three boundaries and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 35. Seven balls later, he was caught by Miller. Rishi broke the three-run stand.

MI scored 150 off 18.1 overs (109 balls). KXIP had conceded five extras at that point.

Pollard, whose 12-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes, scored 28. He was unbeaten, as was Aditya Tare, who scored 16 off half-a-dozen balls, which included a boundary and a six.

KXIP eventually conceded half-a-dozen extras. MI, who scored 170 for the loss of five wickets off 19.1 overs, won by five wickets with five balls to spare.

Axar Patel and Johnson bowled four wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 40, the latter conceded 37.

Balaji bowled four overs, conceding 38. He picked up a wicket.

Sandeep bowled 3.1 overs, conceded 29. He picked up two scalps, as did Rishi, who bowled four overs, conceding 23.
