On winning the toss, George Bailey, KXIP’s skipper, chose to bat.
The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory
Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 36, and lost
a couple of wickets.
KXIP’s openers put on 13. Virender Sehwag, who faced a couple of balls,
scored a run. Fourteen balls into the (Shar)match, Rohit, MI’s skipper, ran him
out.
Cheteshwar Pujara, whose 18-ball innings included four boundaries, scored
19. Eight balls later, he was caught by Chidhambaram Gautam. Corey Anderson,
the player of the match, scored the 11-run stand.
KXIP scored 50 off 7.5 overs (48 balls). MI had conceded five extras at
that point.
The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 42 balls. While Wriddhiman Saha’s
contribution to the partnership was 11, Glenn Maxwell’s contribution to it was
35. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was four.
Maxwell, whose 27-ball innings included five boundaries and a couple of
sixes, eventually scored 45. Fifty balls after Pujara’s dismissal, he was

KXIP eventually conceded half-a-dozen extras. MI, who scored 170 for the
loss of five wickets off 19.1 overs, won by five wickets with five balls to
spare.
Axar Patel and Johnson bowled four wicketless overs apiece. While the
former conceded 40, the latter conceded 37.
Balaji bowled four overs, conceding 38. He picked up a wicket.
Sandeep bowled 3.1 overs, conceded 29. He picked up two scalps, as did
Rishi, who bowled four overs, conceding 23.
