On winning the toss, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s skipper,
chose to field.
The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the
mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 42,
and lost a wicket.
Chidhambaram Gautam, whose eight-ball innings included a
couple of boundaries, scored nine. Seventeen balls into the match, he was
caught by Brendon McCullum. Badree broke the 16-run stand.
MI scored 50 off 8.1 overs (49 balls). CSK had conceded a
couple of extras at that point.
The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 46 balls. While Simmons’
contribution to the partnership was 23, Ambati Rayudu’s contribution to it was 26.
Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.
Simmons, whose run-a-ball innings included three
boundaries and a couple of boundaries, eventually scored 38. Fifty-four balls
after Gautam’s dismissal, he was caught by Faf du Plessis. Ravichandran Ashwin
broke the 61-run partnership.
MI scored 100 off 15.1 overs (91 balls). CSK had conceded a
couple of extras at that point.
Rayudu’s half-century – which included a couple of
boundaries and three sixes – came off 38 balls.
Rohit Sharma, MI’s skipper, scored 19. His run-a-ball
innings included a boundary. Thirty-four balls after Simmons’ dismissal, he was
caught by Suresh Raina. Ashwin broke the 45-run stand.
Kieron Pollard, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark.
Three balls later, he was caught by Raina. Needless to say, Ashwin was in

Rayudu, whose 43-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and four sixes, eventually
scored 59. The next ball, he was caught by Ravindra Jadeja off the bowling of
Mohit.
Corey Anderson, whose six-ball innings included a couple
of sixes, scored 18. He was unbeaten.

five extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they
eventually conceded.
Aditya Tare, whose five-ball innings included a couple of
boundaries, scored nine. Eleven balls after Rayudu’s dismissal, he was caught
by du Plessis. Ishwar Pandey broke the 28-run stand.
MI scored 157 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 20
overs.
Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.
Jadeja, who conceded 33, was wicketless.
Badree, Ishwar, and Mohit picked up a wicket apiece. They

Dwayne’s half-century – which included five boundaries and a
couple of sixes – came off 49 balls.
He eventually scored 57 off 51 balls, which included the
aforementioned number of boundaries, in addition to three sixes. Forty-six
balls after Raina’s dismissal, he was caught by Simmons. Praveen broke the
63-run partnership.
Du Plessis, whose 24-ball innings included a couple of
boundaries and a six, eventually scored 31. Lasith Malinga had no reason to be
in seventh heaven – he broke the 10-run stand.
Dhoni, whose 12-ball innings included a boundary and a
six, scored 22. He was unbeaten.
Although his innings included a boundary, Jadeja had no
reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored half-a-dozen. Thirteen balls after
du Plessis’ dismissal, Malinga broke the 17-run stand.
The seventh-wicket pair put on a run. Mithun Manhas, who
faced a ball, scored a run. The next ball, Praveen and Gautam ran him out.

Praveen and Malinga bowled four overs each, conceding a
couple of scalps apiece. While the former conceded 31, the latter conceded 15.
