DD made three changes to their playing eleven – Murali Vijay, Wayne Parnell, and Shahbaz Nadeem made way for Mayank Agarwal, Rahul Shukla, and Imran Tahir.
SRH made no changes to their playing
eleven.
On winning the toss, Shikhar Dhawan,
SRH’s skipper, chose to field.
The first Powerplay of DD’s innings –
which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over.
They scored 52, and lost a wicket.
Quinton de Kock, who faced a dozen
balls, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – 16 balls into the match, he was
caught by Lokesh Rahul. Dale Steyn, the player of the match, broke the 10-run
stand.
DD scored 50 off 5.5 overs (35
balls). SRH had conceded a couple of extras at that point.
Kevin Pietersen, DD’s skipper, scored
35 off 19 balls, which included four boundaries and a couple of sixes.
Twenty-three balls into the match, he was caught by Shikhar. Amit Mishra broke
the 44-run stand.
Agarwal, whose 18-ball innings
included four boundaries, scored 25. Fourteen balls later, he was caught by David
Warner. Mishra broke the 19-run stand.
DD scored 100 off 12.5 overs (77
balls). SRH had conceded five extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the
number of extras they eventually conceded.
Seventy-nine balls (13.1 overs) into
the match, there was an interruption owing to rain. DD had scored 103 for the
loss of three wickets at that point. While Dinesh Karthik was batting on 17,
Laxmi Ratan Shukla was batting on 14.
The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off
39 balls. While Karthik’s contribution to the partnership was 30, Laxmi Ratan’s
contribution to it was 17. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was three.
Karthik, whose 30-ball innings
included a boundary and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 39. Forty-four
balls after Agarwal’s dismissal, he was caught by Steyn. Moises Henriques broke
the 55-run partnership.
Laxmi Ratan, whose 22-ball innings
included a boundary and a six, eventually scored 21. Four balls later, he was
caught by Warner. Henriques broke the run-a-ball stand.
Jean-Paul Duminy, who faced five
balls, scored four. Thirteen balls later, Bhuvneshwar Kumar had a reason to be
in seventh heaven.
Kedar Jadhav, who faced 11 balls,
scored five. An over later, he was caught by Irfan Pathan. Steyn broke the
four-run stand.
Rahul Shukla, who scored three balls,
scored a couple. He was unbeaten.
DD scored 143 for the loss of seven
wickets off 20 overs.
Karn Sharma and Irfan bowled three
wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 29, the latter conceded 18.
Bhuvneshwar, who bowled four overs,
conceded 23. He picked up a wicket.
Henriques and Mishra bowled three
overs each, conceding 26 and 23, respectively. They picked up a couple of
scalps apiece, as did Bhuvneshwar, who bowled four overs, conceding 23.
At the beginning of the chase, there
was an interruption owing to rain.
Due to that, the target was revised
to 117 off 15 overs.
The first Powerplay of SRH’s innings
– which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the fifth over.
Seven balls into the chase, there was
another interruption owing to rain. SRH had scored 11 without the loss of a
wicket at that point.
Shikhar, who faced eight balls,
scored four. His runs came by way of a boundary. Ten balls into the chase, he
was caught by Duminy. Kaul broke the (Siddar)thirteen-run stand.
Owing to that rain interruption, the
target was revised to 97 off a dozen overs.
A couple of overs into the chase,
there was another interruption owing to rain. SRH had scored 17 for the loss of
a wicket at that point.
Aaron Finch had no reason to be in
seventh heaven – he scored four. Ten balls after Shikhar’s dismissal, Rahul
Shukla broke the 12-run stand.
Owing to that rain interruption, the
target was revised to 43 off five overs.
Warner, whose nine-ball innings
included a boundary, scored a dozen. He was unbeaten, as was Naman Ojha, who
scored 13 off three balls, which included a couple of sixes.
DD eventually conceded 11 extras.
SRH, who scored 44 for the loss of a couple of wickets off 4.2 overs, won by
eight wickets with four balls to spare, by the Duckworth-Lewis method.
Laxmi Ratan, who bowled two balls,
wasn’t in seventh heaven, because he was wicketless, as were Tahir and Mohammed
Shami, who bowled an over apiece. While the former was in seventh heaven, the
latter condeded half-a-dozen.
Rahul Shukla and Kaul bowled an over
each, picking up a scalp apiece. While the former conceded 13, the latter
conceded five.
