Bailey-led KXIP beat hosts Mumbai

MI made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Jasprit Bumrah and Pragyan Ojha made way for Jagadeesha Suchith and Pawan Suyal.

KXIP made one changes to their playing eleven – Karanveer Singh made way for Rishi Dhawan.

On winning the toss, Rohit Sharma, MI’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over.  They scored 57, without the loss of a wicket.

KXIP’s openers put on 50 off 5.2 overs (32 balls). MI had conceded a couple of extras at that point. While Murali Vijay’s contribution to the partnership was 19, Virender Sehwag’s contribution to it was 30.

Sehwag, whose 19-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries and a six, scored 36. Forty balls into the match, he was caught by Kieron Pollard. Harbhajan Singh broke the 60-run partnership.

Glenn Maxwell, whose four-ball innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen. Half-a-dozen balls later, he was caught by Ambati Rayudu. Suchith broke the eight-run stand.

Vijay, whose 29-ball innings included half-a-dozen balls, scored 35. Sixteen balls later, he was caught by Suchith. Harbhajan broke the 20-run stand.

KXIP scored 100 off 12.1 overs (73 balls). MI had conceded three extras at that point.

David Miller, whose 23-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 24. (Lasi)Thirty-one balls after Vijay’s dismissal, he was caught by Aditya Tare. Malinga broke the 46-run stand.

KXIP scored 150 off 17 overs (102 balls). MI had conceded four extras at that point.

George Bailey, KXIP’s skipper, scored 50 off 27 balls, which included a couple of boundaries and three sixes.

He eventually scored 61 off 32 balls, which included four boundaries, in addition to the aforementioned number of sixes. He was unbeaten.

Rishi, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen. Ten balls after Miller’s dismissal, he was caught by Vinay Kumar. Malinga broke the 16-run stand.

Mitchell Johnson had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored three. He was unbeaten.

MI eventually conceded half-a-dozen extras. KXIP scored 177 for the loss of five wickets off 20 overs.

Pollard bowled a wicketless over, conceding 11.

Suyal bowled three wicketless overs, conceding 22.

Vinay bowled four wicketless overs, conceding 46.

Suchith bowled four overs, conceding 41. He picked up a wicket.

Malinga and Harbhajan bowled four overs each, picking up two scalps apiece. While the former conceded 34, the latter conceded 20.

The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over.  They scored 17, and lost three wickets.

MI’s openers didn’t get off the (Shar)mark. Rohit, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t open his account. A couple of balls into the chase, he was trapped leg before wicket by Sandeep.

Aditya, who faced 10 balls, had no (Ta)reason to be in seventh heaven – 19 balls later, he was caught by Vijay. Anureet Singh broke the 15-run stand.

Aaron Finch, whose 14-ball innings included a boundary, scored eight. Eleven balls later, Johnson broke the two-run stand.

Corey Anderson, whose (Pat)eleven-ball innings included a boundary, scored five. Thirteen balls later, he was stumped by Wriddhiman Saha. Axar broke the eight-run stand.

Rayudu, whose 19-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 13. Eleven balls later, he was caught by Saha. Johnson broke the 21-run stand.

Pollard, whose 21-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 20. Eleven balls later, he was caught by Miller. Axar broke the 13-run stand.    

MI scored 50 off 13 overs (79 balls). KXIP had conceded four extras at that point.

MI scored 100 off 16.3 overs (101 balls). The number of extras they had conceded at that point gave KXIP at that point.

The seventh-wicket pair put on 50 off 19 balls. While Suchith’s contribution to the partnership was 14, Harbhajan’s contribution to it was 33. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was three.

Harbhajan’s half-century – which included four boundaries and five sixes – came off 19 balls.

MI scored 150 off 19.2 overs (118 balls). KXIP had conceded eight extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

The seventh-wicket pair put on 100 off 36 balls. While Suchith’s contribution to the partnership was 32, Harbhajan’s contribution to it was 64. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was four.

Harbhajan, whose 24-ball innings included five boundaries and half-a-dozen sixes, eventually scored 64. Thirty-seven balls after Pollard’s dismissal, he was caught by Sandeep. Anureet broke the 100-run partnership.

Suchith, whose 21-ball innings included four boundaries and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 32. He was unbeaten, as was Vinay, who didn’t face a ball.

MI, who scored 159 for the loss of seven wickets off 20 overs, lost by 18 runs.

Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.

Rishi, who conceded 50, was wicketless.

Sandeep, whose spell included a maiden, conceded 12. He picked up a wicket.

Anureet, Patel and Johnson (whose spell included a maiden) picked up a couple of scalps apiece. They conceded 41, 30, and 23, respectively.
