KKR made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Umar Gul and Murali Kartik made way for Iqbal Abdulla and Shoaib Akhtar, the player of the match.
DD made one change to their playing eleven – Dinesh Karthik made way for
Manoj Tiwary.
On winning the toss, Sourav Ganguly, KKR’s skipper, chose to bat.
The first Powerplay of KKR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 35, and lost a wicket.
Aakash Chopra, whose 17-ball innings included a couple of boundaries,
scored 13. Half-a-dozen balls into the match, he was caught by Farveez Maharoof.
Pradeep Sangwan broke the 35-run stand.
Although his four-ball innings included a six, Ganguly had no reason to
be in seventh heaven – five balls later, Yo Mahesh broke the 12-run stand.
KKR scored 50 off 7.2 overs (45 balls). The number of extras they had
conceded at that point gave DD no reason to be in seventh heaven.
Salman Butt, whose 44-ball innings included seven boundaries, scored 48.
Thirty-eight balls after Ganguly’s dismissal, he was caught by McGrath. Yo

Yo Mahesh and Maharoof bowled four overs each, picking up a couple of
scalps apiece. While the former conceded 34, the latter conceded 25.

De Villiers, who faced a dozen balls, had no reason to be in seventh
heaven – 10 balls later, he was caught by Taibu. Akhtar broke the 11-run stand.
The fourth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Although his innings
included a couple of boundaries, Tiwary, who scored nine, had no reason to be
in seventh heaven – the next ball, he was trapped leg before wicket by Akhtar.
Although his 10-ball innings included a boundary, Dhawan had no reason
to be in seventh heaven – 18 balls later, Ashok Dinda broke the 15-run stand.

KKR eventually conceded eight extras. DD, who were dismissed for 110 off

Abdulla and Sharma bowled three wicketless overs apiece. While the
former conceded 22, the latter conceded 18.
Ganguly, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 23.
Dinda, who bowled four overs, conceded 29. He picked up a wicket.
