Dravid-led RCB beat Hyderabad narrowly

RCB made three changes to their playing eleven – Ross Taylor, Vinay Kumar and Sunil Joshi made way for Bharat Chipli, Misbah-ul-Haq and Anil Kumble.

DC made three changes to their playing eleven – Venugopal Rao, Nuwan Zoysa and Doddapaneni Kalyankrishna made way for Scott Styris, Arjun Yadav and Paidikalva Vijaykumar.

On winning the toss, V V S Laxman, DC’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of RCB’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 46, and lost a wicket.

Although his innings included a couple of boundaries, Chipli had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored 10. A couple of overs into the match, Rudra Pratap Singh broke the 13-run stand.

RCB scored 50 off 6.3 overs (39 balls). DC had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 40 balls. While Wasim Jaffer’s contribution to the partnership was 30, Virat Kohli’s contribution to it was 21. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

Jaffer, whose 37-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries, eventually scored 44. Nine overs after Chipli’s dismissal, he was caught by Herschelle Gibbs. Pragyan Ojha broke the 72-run partnership.

RCB scored 100 off 12.2 overs (74 balls). DC had conceded four extras at that point.

Jacques Kallis, whose five-ball innings included a boundary, scored (Oj)half-a-dozen. Eleven balls after Jaffer’s dismissal, the left-arm spinner broke the 17-run stand.

Kohli, whose 29-ball inning included a boundary and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 38. Three balls later, he was caught by Sanjay Bangar. Rudra Pratap broke the two-run stand.

Misbah, who faced five balls, scored three. Half-a-dozen balls later, Shahid Afridi had a reason to be in seventh heaven – he trapped him leg before wicket.

Mark Boucher, whose 14-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 16. Twenty-five balls later, Rudra Pratap broke the 24-run stand.

RCB scored 150 off 19.3 overs (117 balls). DC had conceded five extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

The seventh-wicket pair put on 15. Praveen Kumar, the player of the match, faced four balls, scoring eight. His runs came by way of boundaries. Bangar and Styris had a reason to be in seventh heaven – he ran him out.

Rahul Dravid, RCB’s skipper, scored 26. His 19-ball innings included a boundary and a couple of sixes. A couple of balls later, he was caught by Yadav. Styris broke the six-run stand.

Zaheer Khan, who didn’t face a ball, was unbeaten.

RCB scored 156 for the loss of eight wickets off 20 overs.

Bangar, who bowled an over, conceded 14. He was wicketless, as was Vijaykumar, who bowled three overs, conceding 18.

Styris and Afridi bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 29, the latter conceded 23.

Ojha, who bowled four overs, conceded 28. He picked up a couple of wickets.

Rudra Pratap, who bowled four overs, conceded 41. He picked up three scalps.

The first Powerplay of DC’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 33, and lost a couple of wickets.

Adam Gilchrist, whose 11-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 10. Twenty-three balls into the chase, he was caught by Jaffer. Khan broke the 22-run stand.

Although his innings included a boundary, Gibbs had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored five. Eight balls later, he was caught by Kumble. Praveen broke the nine-run stand.

DC scored 50 off 7.4 overs (46 balls). RCB had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 38 balls. While Laxman’s contribution to the partnership was 18, Rohit Sharma’s contribution to it was 30. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

DC scored 100 off 13.3 overs (81 balls). RCB had conceded four extras at that point.

While Laxman’s half-century – which included seven boundaries – came off 39 balls, Sharma’s half-century – which included five boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 39 balls.

Sharma, whose 42-ball innings included the aforementioned number of boundaries, in addition to three sixes, eventually scored 57. Seventy balls after Gibbs’ dismissal, he was caught by Jaffer. Kallis broke the 96-run partnership.

Afridi, whose faced a couple of balls, scored a run. A couple of balls later, he was caught by Dale Steyn. Praveen broke the one-run stand.

Laxman, who faced 44 balls, eventually scored 52. Five balls later, he was trapped leg be‘four’ wicket by Praveen.

The sixth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Styris, who faced three balls, scored a couple. The next ball, he was trapped leg before wicket by Khan.

DC scored 150 off 19.4 overs (118 balls). RCB had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Yadav, who faced four balls, scored three. He was unbeaten, as was Bangar, who had a reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored 17, including a couple of sixes.

DC, who scored 153 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 20 overs, lost by three runs.

Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.

Kumble and Steyn were wicketless. While the former conceded 47, the latter conceded 20.

Kallis conceded 35, picking up a wicket.

Khan conceded 24, picking up a couple of wickets.
