Sehwag delighted; DD beat Chennai

CSK made four changes to their playing (Micha)eleven – Matthew Hayden, Hussey, Jacob Oram and Palani Amarnath made way for Stephen Fleming, Vidyut Sivaramakrishnan, Makhaya Ntini and Muttiah Muralitharan.

DD made a couple of changes to their playing (Dani)eleven – Manoj Tiwary and Vettori made way for A B de Villiers and Pradeep Sangwan.

On winning the toss, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of CSK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 47, and lost a wicket.

Stephen Fleming, whose run-a-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 13. Twenty balls into the match, Yo Mahesh broke the 23-run stand.

CSK scored 50 off 6.4 overs (42 balls). DC had conceded four extras at that point.

Parthiv Patel, whose 20-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 21. Twenty-nine balls after Fleming’s dismissal, he was caught by Mahesh. Virender Sehwag, DC’s skipper and the player of the match, broke the 42-run stand.

CSK scored 100 off 11.4 overs (72 balls). DC had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

Vidyut’s half-century – which included seven boundaries and a six – came off 31 balls.

Interestingly, even the third-wicket pair put on 50 off 31 balls. While Vidyut’s contribution to the partnership was 26, Dhoni’s contribution to it was 25. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

Vidyut, who faced 37 balls, eventually scored 54. Forty balls after Patel’s dismissal, he was caught by Mahesh. Glenn McGrath broke the 57-run partnership.

Dhoni, whose 27-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 32. Fourteen balls later, he was caught by Shoaib Malik. Mohammad Asif broke the 15-run stand.

The fifth-wicket pair put on eight. Suresh Raina, who faced four balls, scored three. Sangwan had a reason to be in seventh heaven – he ran him out.

CSK scored 150 off 18.4 overs (114 balls). The number of extras they had conceded at that point gave DC no reason to be in seventh heaven. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Albie Morkel, whose 16-ball innings included three boundaries and a couple of sixes, scored 28. Nine balls later, he was caught by Sehwag. Rajat Bhatia broke the 18-run stand.

Subramaniam Badrinath, whose five-ball innings included a six, scored 11. He was unbeaten, as was Joginder Sharma, who didn’t face a ball.

CSK scored 169 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 20 overs.

Malik bowled an over, conceding 11. He was wicketless, as was Sangwan, who bowled four overs, conceding 40.

Bhatia bowled an over, conceding 11. He picked up a wicket, as did Sehwag, who bowled a couple of overs, conceding 21.

Asif, Mahesh and McGrath bowled four overs each, picking up a scalp apiece. They conceded 34, 31, and 21, respectively.

The first Powerplay of DD’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 64, without the loss of a wicket.

DD’s openers put on 50 off 4.5 overs (29 balls). CSK had conceded a couple of extras at that point. While Gautam Gambhir’s contribution to the partnership was 13, Sehwag’s contribution to it was 38.

Sehwag’s half-century – which included four boundaries and as many sixes – came off 24 balls.

DD’s openers put on 100 off 8.5 overs (55 balls). CSK had conceded four extras at that point. While Gambhir’s contribution to the partnership was 35, Sehwag’s contribution to it was 61.

Sehwag, whose 41-ball innings included seven boundaries, in addition to the aforementioned number of sixes, eventually scored 71. Seventy balls into the chase, he was caught by Muralitharan. Sharma broke the 115-run partnership.

Gambhir’s half-century – which included five boundaries and a six – came off 35 balls.

He eventually scored 37 balls, failing to add to the aforementioned score. Nineteen balls after Sehwag’s dismissal, Manpreet Singh Gony broke the 24-run stand.

DD scored 150 off 16.5 overs (103 balls). CSK had conceded five extras at that point.

De Villiers, whose 21-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 26. He was unbeaten, as was Shikhar Dhawan, who scored 19. His 17-ball innings included a couple of boundaries.

CSK eventually conceded half-a-dozen extras. DC, who scored 172 for the loss of two wickets off 19 overs, won by eight wickets with an over to spare.

Morkel, Ntini and Muralitharan bowled four wicketless overs apiece. They conceded 40, 29, and 27, respectively.

Sharma bowled three overs, conceding 35. He picked up a wicket, as was Gony, who bowled four overs, conceding 39.
