Yuvraj-led KXIP triumph; Hyderabad disheartened

DC made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Andrew Symonds and Arjun Yadav made way for Herschelle Gibbs and Venugopal Rao.

KXIP made three (Kati)changes to their playing eleven – Simon, Tanmay Srivastava and Brett Lee made way for Shaun Marsh (the player of the match), Ramnaresh Sarwan and Gagandeep Singh.

On winning the toss, Yuvraj Singh, KXIP’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of DC’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 50, and lost a wicket.

Adam Gilchrist, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored as many. Twenty balls into the match, Irfan Pathan broke the 27-run stand.

DC scored 50 off 5.5 overs (35 balls). KXIP had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Gibbs, who faced nine balls, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – 22 balls after Gilchrist’s dismissal, he was caught by Karan Goel. Piyush Chawla broke the 27-run stand.

V V S Laxman, DC’s skipper, scored 48 off 34 balls, which included eight boundaries. A couple of balls (Chaw)later, he was caught by Yuvraj. The leggie broke the 13-run stand.

Shahid Afridi, whose seven-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 13. Seven teen balls later, he was caught by Yuvraj. Gagandeep broke the 23-run stand.

The fifth-wicket pair put on a couple. Rao, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Four balls later, Yuvraj and Kumar Sangakkara ran him out.

Sanjay Bangar, who faced eight balls, scored just three. Ten balls (Chaw)later, he was caught by Sreesanth. The leggie broke the six-run stand.

DC scored 100 off 14.3 overs (87 balls). KXIP had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Rohit Sharma’s half-century – which included seven boundaries and a six – came off 34 balls.

The Mumbaikar, who batted at number four, eventually scored 76 off 42 balls, which included 10 boundaries and a couple of boundaries. He was unbeaten.

Nuwan Zoysa, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. A dozen balls later, Sreesanth broke the 21-run stand.

DC scored 150 off 18.5 overs (113 balls). KXIP had conceded three extras at that point.

Doddapaneni Kalyankrishna, who faced eight balls, scored three. Eighteen balls later, he was caught by Marsh. Pathan broke the 35-run stand.

Rudra Pratap Singh, who faced a couple of balls, scored as many. He was unbeaten.

KXIP eventually conceded four extras. DC scored 164 for the loss of eight wickets off 20 overs.

Each of the five bowlers bowled five overs apiece.

V R V Singh, who conceded 34, was wicketless.

Gagandeep and Sreesanth picked up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 37, the latter conceded 33.

Pathan, who conceded 30, picked up a couple of wickets.

Chawla, who bowled 28, picked up three scalps.

The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 41, and lost a wicket.

In fact, KXIP’s openers put on 41. Sarwan, whose run-a-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 15. Half-a-dozen overs into the chase, Bangar ran him out.

Sangakkara, who faced four balls, scored three. Five balls later, he was caught by Sharma. Kalyankrishna broke the four-run stand.

KXIP scored 50 off 7.4 overs (46 balls). DC had conceded an extra at that point.

Marsh’s half-century – which included eight boundaries – came off 35 balls.

Yuvraj, whose nine-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 14. Twenty-four balls after Sangakkara’s dismissal, he was caught by Zoysa, who broke the 41-run stand.

KXIP scored 100 off 12 overs (72 balls). DC had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 29 balls. While Marsh’s contribution to the partnership was 14, Mahela Jayawardene’s contribution to it was 35. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was three.

KXIP scored 150 off 17.2 overs (104 balls). DC had conceded five extras at that point.

Marsh, whose 62-ball innings included 11 boundaries and a six, eventually conceded 84. He was unbeaten, as was Jayawardene, who scored 45. His 23-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries and a six.

DC eventually conceded half-a-dozen extras. KXIP, who scored 167 for the loss of three wickets off 18.5 overs, won by seven wickets with seven balls to spare.

Rao bowled a wicketless over, conceding nine.

Afridi bowled three wicketless overs, conceding 28.

Rudra Pratap bowled 3.5 wicketless overs, conceding 36.

Bangar bowled four wicketless overs, conceding 26.
