RCB made three changes to their playing eleven – Wasim Jaffer, Cameron White and Ashley Noffke made way for Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Ross Taylor and Vinay Kumar.
On winning the toss, Harbhajan Singh, MI’s skipper, chose to bat.
The start of play was delayed.
The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 47, and lost a couple
of wickets.
Luke Ronchi, who faced 10 balls, scored eight. His runs came by way of
boundaries. Eleven balls into the match, he was caught by Virat Kohli. Zaheer Khan
broke the nine-run stand.
Twenty-two balls into the match, Dominic Thornely retired hurt. He had
faced five balls at that point, and had not opened his account. MI had scored
20 and lost a wicket at that point.
The second-wicket pair put on (Sana)thirty-seven (26 after Thornely’s
retirement). Jayasuriya, whose 16-ball innings included five boundaries and a
six, scored 29. Twenty-three balls after Ronchi’s dismissal (and a dozen balls
after the Australian retired), Khan ran him out.
MI scored 50 off 6.4 overs (40 balls). RCB had conceded half-a-dozen extras
at that point.
The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 43 balls. While Robin’s contribution
to the (Uthap)partnership was 30, Pinal Shah’s contribution to it was 18.
Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.
Shah, whose 23-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, eventually
scored 19. Forty-seven balls after Jayasuriya’s dismissal, he was caught by
Kohli. Balachandra Akhil broke the 51-run partnership.
MI scored 100 off 14.1 overs (85 balls). RCB had conceded nine extras at
that point.
Uthappa, whose 38-ball innings included five boundaries and a six, eventually
scored 48. Twenty balls after Shah’s dismissal, he was stumped by Mark Boucher,
the player of the match. Akhil broke the 28-run stand.
MI scored 150 off 18.1 overs (109 balls). RCB had conceded 11 extras at
that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually
conceded.
Abhishek Nayar, whose 14-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored
20. A dozen balls after Uthappa’s dismissal, he was caught by Khan. Praveen Kumar
broke the 27-run stand.
Shaun Pollock, whose 12-ball innings included three boundaries and a
six, scored 28. Khan had a reason to be in seventh heaven – he broke the 13-run
stand.
Harbhajan, who faced a couple of balls, scored as many. He was unbeaten.
MI scored 165 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 20 overs.
Sunil Joshi bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceding 10.
Jacques Kallis bowled three wicketless overs, conceding 43.
Vinay bowled four wicketless overs, conceding 41.
Praveen bowled four overs, conceding 29. He picked up a wicket.
Akhil bowled three overs, conceded 17. He picked up a couple of scalps,
as did Khan, who bowled four overs, conceding 17.

Twenty-three balls after Chanderpaul’s dismissal, he was caught by Harbhajan,
who broke the 31-run stand.
Taylor, whose 12-ball innings included a boundary and a couple of sixes,
scored 23. Seven balls later, he was caught by Nayar. Jayasuriya broke the
eight-run stand.
RCB scored 100 off 12.3 overs (75 balls). MI had conceded a couple of extras
at that point.
Kohli, whose 14-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, scored
23. Twenty-one balls after Taylor’s dismissal, he was caught by Ronchi. Twenty20
debutant Ashish Nehra broke the 30-run stand.
RCB scored 150 off 18 overs (108 balls). MI had conceded four extras at
that point.
The fifth-wicket pair put on 50 off 28 balls. While Kallis’ contribution
to the partnership was 16, Boucher’s contribution to it was 33. Extras’ contribution
to the partnership was a run.
Kallis, whose 24-ball innings included a six, eventually scored 25.
Thirty-one balls after Kohli’s dismissal, he was caught by Nayar. Harbhajan
broke the 55-run partnership.
Boucher, whose 19-ball innings included four boundaries and a couple of
sixes, eventually scored 39. He was unbeaten, as was Akhil, who faced five
balls, scoring three.
MI eventually conceded five extras. RCB, who scored 166 for the loss of
five wickets off 19.4 overs, won by five wickets with a couple of balls to
spare.
Nayar bowled an over, conceding 10. He was wicketless, as was Pollock,
who bowled four overs, conceding 17.
The Mumbai medium-pacer bowled 16 balls, conceding (Kulkar)nineteen. He
picked up a wicket, as did Nehra and Jayasuriya, who bowled four overs apiece.
While the former conceded 45, the latter conceded 39.
Harbhajan bowled four overs, conceding 36. He picked up a couple of
scalps.
