DD made three changes to their playing eleven – A B de Villiers, Rajat
Bhatia and Pradeep Sangwan made way for Manoj Tiwary, Brett Geeves and Amit Mishra.
On winning the toss, Virender Sehwag, DD’s skipper, chose to field.
The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 60, without the loss of
a wicket.
MI’s openers put on 50 off 5.3 overs (33 balls). DD had conceded an extra
at that point. While Jayasuriya’s contribution to the partnership waS(ana)thirty-one,
the contribution of Sachin Tendulkar, their skipper, it was 18.
Tendulkar, whose 16-ball innings included three boundaries, failed to
add to the aforementioned score. Forty-three balls into the match, Yo Mahesh
broke the 70-run partnership.
Jayasuriya’s half-century – which included five boundaries and four
sixes – came off 31 balls.
MI scored 100 off 11.5 overs (71 balls). The number of extras DD had
conceded at that point gave them no reason to be in seventh heaven.
Dwayne, whose run-a-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored
17. (Smi)Thirty balls after Tendulkar’s dismissal, he was caught by Geeves. Yo
Mahesh broke the 37-run stand.
Jayasuriya, whose 42-ball innings included half-a-dozen balls and five
sixes, eventually scored 66. Eight balls later, he was caught by Tillakaratne
Dilshan. Mishra broke the five-run stand.
Uthappa, whose 23-ball (Rob)innings included five boundaries and a
couple of sixes, scored 46. He was unbeaten.
Nayar, who faced three balls, scored (Abhish)ek. Four balls after
Jayasuriya’s dismissal, he was caught by Dilshan. Geeves broke the two-run
stand.
Shaun Pollock, whose 15-ball innings included a couple of boundaries,
scored 16. Twenty-one balls later, Farveez Maharoof broke the 29-run stand.
MI scored 150 off 18.3 overs (111 balls). DD had conceded eight extras
at that point.
Siddharth Chitnis, who faced four balls, scored three. Nine balls after Pollock’s
dismissal, he was caught by Shikhar Dhawan. Yo Mahesh broke the 19-run stand.
Pinal Shah, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. Two balls later,
he was caught by Geeves. Yo Mahesh broke the one-run stand.
The eighth-wicket pair put on 13. Nel didn’t face a ball. Three balls
later, Sehwag ran him out.
DD eventually conceded nine extras. MI scored 176 for the loss of eight
wickets off 20 overs.
Each of the five bowlers bowled five overs apiece.
Glenn McGrath, who was wicketless, conceded 39.
Geeves, Maharoof and Mishra picked up a wicket apiece. They conceded 50,
27, and 23, respectively.
Yo Mahesh conceded 36, picking up four scalps.

Shikhar Dhawan, whose 29-ball innings included a couple of boundaries
and a six, scored 27. Thirty-five balls later, he was caught by Chitnis. Smith
broke the 39-run stand.
The fourth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Dilshan, who faced a
ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, he was dismissed by Smith.
DD scored 100 off 12.2 overs (74 balls). MI had conceded an extra at
that point.
The fifth-wicket pair put on 41. Tiwary, whose 29-ball innings included
five boundaries, scored 36. Twenty-five balls after Dilshan’s dismissal,
Jayasuriya ran him out.
DD scored 150 off 17 overs (102 balls). MI had conceded three extras at
that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually
conceded.
Dinesh Karthik, the player of the match, scored 50 off 27 balls, which
included four boundaries and three sixes.
He eventually scored 56 off 32 balls, and was unbeaten, as was Maharoof,
who scored 20. His 13-ball innings included four boundaries.
DD, who scored 179 for the loss of five wickets off 19.5 overs, won by
five wickets with a ball to spare.
Pollock and Kulkarni bowled three wicketless overs apiece. While the former
conceded 33, the latter conceded 26.
Jayasuriya bowled four wicketless overs, conceding 35.
Nel bowled three overs, conceding 31. He picked up a wicket, as did Nehra,
who bowled 3.5 overs, conceding 31.
Smith bowled three overs, conceding 22. He picked up two scalps.
