Warne-led RR beat Chennai again

CSK made one change to their playing eleven – Vidyut Sivaramakrishnan made way for Twenty20 debutant Abhinav Mukund.

RR made four changes to their playing eleven – Shane Warne, Ravindra Jadeja, Mahesh Rawat and Siddharth Trivedi made way for Kamran Akmal, Taruwar Kohli, Dinesh Salunkhe and Pankaj Singh.

On winning the toss, Shane Warne, RR’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of RR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 67, without the loss of a wicket.

RR’s openers put on 50 off 4.5 overs (30 balls). CSK had conceded five extras at that point. While Graeme Smith’s contribution to the partnership was 20, Swapnil Asnodkar’s contribution to it was 27.

Smith’s half-century – which included seven boundaries and a six – came off 29 balls.

RR’s openers put on 100 off 9.4 overs (59 balls). The number of extras they had conceded gave CSK no reason to be in seventh heaven. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded. While Smith’s contribution to the partnership was 58, Asnodkar’s contribution to it was 35.

RR’s openers eventually scored 127. Asnodkar, whose 27-ball innings included five boundaries and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 41. Sixty-eight balls into the match, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s skipper, and Parthiv Patel ran him out.

RR scored 150 off 13.5 overs (84 balls).

Smith, whose 51-ball innings included nine boundaries and four sixes, eventually scoreD(ho)ninety-one. Seventeen balls after Asnodkar’s dismissal, he was caught behind. Suresh Raina broke the 23-run stand.

Yusuf Pathan, whose five-ball innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen. Fourteen balls later, he was caught by Muttiah Muralitharan. Albie Morkel, the player of the match, broke the 28-run stand.

Although his innings included a boundary, Mohammad Kaif had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored 10. A dozen balls later, he was caught by Mukund. Morkel broke the 21-run stand.

RR scored 200 off 18.3 overs (112 balls).

Akmal’s half-century – which included four boundaries and three sixes – came off 26 balls.

He eventually scored 53 off 28 balls, and was unbeaten.

The fifth-wicket pair put on a dozen. Kohli, who faced three balls, scored as many. Ten balls after Kaif’s dismissal, Subramaniam Badrinath and Patel ran him out.

RR scored 211 for the loss of five wickets off 20 overs.

Lakshmipathy Balaji and Manpreet Gony bowled three wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 45, the latter conceded 32.

Makhaya Ntini and Muralitharan bowled four wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 43, the latter conceded 31.

Raina, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 20. He picked up a wicket.

Morkel, who bowled four overs, conceded 35. He picked up a couple of scalps.

CSK’s openers put on 14. Although his four-ball innings included a six, Stephen Fleming had no reason to be in seventh heaven – Ten balls later, Tanvir and Akmal ran him out.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 24 balls. While Parthiv’s contribution to the partnership was 16, Raina’s contribution to it was 25. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

Raina, whose 24-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 45. Forty-one balls after Fleming’s dismissal, he was caught by Kaif. Warne broke the 70-run partnership.

CSK scored 100 off 10.1 overs (62 balls). RR had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

Patel’s half-century – which included five boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 34 balls.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 25 balls. While Parthi’s contribution to the partnership was 23, Morkel’s contribution to it was 28. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was three.

CSK’s openers put on 150 off 14.3 overs (88 balls). The number of extras they had conceded gave RR no reason to be in seventh heaven.

Parthiv eventually scored 54 off 40 balls. Thirty-nine balls after Raina’s dismissal, he was stumped by Akmal. Warne broke the 73-run partnership.

Morkel’s half-century – which included five boundaries and three sixes – came off 26 balls.

Dhoni, whose eight-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored a dozen. Sixteen balls after Parthiv’s dismissal, he was caught by Kaif. Tanvir broke the 25-run stand.

Badrinath, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Half-a-dozen balls later, he was caught by Kohli. Munaf Patel broke the run-a-ball stand.

CSK scored 200 off 19.3 overs (120 balls). RR had conceded nine extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Morkel, whose 40-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries and four sixes, eventually scored 71. Seven balls after Badrinath’s dismissal, he was caught by the substitute, Jadeja. Tanvir broke the 13-run stand.

Gony, who faced four balls, scored a couple. He was unbeaten.

The seventh-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Mukund, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. A ball after Morkel’s dismissal, he was dismissed by Tanvir.

CSK, who scored 201 for the loss of seven wickets off 20 overs, lost by 10 runs.

Salunkhe, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded 14.

Pathan, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 31.

Singh, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 30.

Munaf, who bowled four overs, conceded 55. He picked up a wicket.

Warne, who bowled four overs, conceded 35. He picked up a couple of wickets.
