DC made just one change to their playing eleven – Scott Styris made way for Shahid Afridi.
DD (Moham)made three changes to their playing (Dani)eleven – Mithun Manhas,
Vettori and Brett Geeves made way for the Pakistani pair (Shoaib Malik and Asif)
and Yo Mahesh.
On winning the toss, V V S Laxman, DC’s skipper, chose to bat.
The first Powerplay of DC’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay –
was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 25, and lost a couple of
wickets.
Adam Gilchrist, whose nine-ball innings included a six, scored eight. A
dozen balls into the match, Asif broke the nine-run stand.
Laxman, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored a couple. Nineteen balls
later, Asif broke the 14-run stand.
Venugopal Rao, whose 22-ball innings included a couple of boundaries,
scored 14. Seventeen balls later, he was caught by Shikhar Dhawan. Farveez
Maharoof broke the 13-run stand.
Andrew Symonds, whose 13-ball innings included a couple of boundaries,
scored a dozen. Eight balls later, he was caught by Dinesh Karthik. Maharoof
broke the nine-run stand.
DC scored 50 off 10.5 overs (65 balls). DD had conceded a couple of
extras at that point.
Afridi had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored just a couple.
Seventeen balls after Symonds’ dismissal, he was trapped leg before wicket by
Rajat Bhatia, who broke the 10-run stand.
The sixth-wicket pair put on 22. Sanjay Bangar, who faced 14 balls,
scored eight. Twenty-four balls later, Manoj Tiwary and Karthik ran him out.
DC scored 100 off 17.2 overs (104 balls). DD had conceded three extras
at that point.
Rohit Sharma’s half-century – which included three boundaries and four
sixes – came off 31 balls.
He eventually scored 66 off 36 balls, which included half-a-dozen
boundaries, in addition to the aforementioned number of sixes. Fifteen balls
after the Pakistani’s (Afri)dismissal, he was caught by Glenn McGrath. Bhatia
broke the 41-run stand.
Although his innings included a couple of boundaries, Arjun Yadav had no
reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored 12. Four balls later, he was caught
by Gautam Gambhir. Mahesh broke the six-run stand.
Chaminda Vaas, whose six-ball innings included a six, scored a dozen. He
was unbeaten, as was Rudra Pratap Singh, who faced a ball, scoring a run.
DD eventually conceded five extras. DC scored 142 for the loss of eight
wickets off 20 overs.
Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.
McGrath, whose spell included a maiden, conceded 22. He was wicketless.
Mahesh conceded 35, picking up a wicket.
Maharoof, Bhatia and Asif conceded 36, 27, and 19, respectively. They picked
up two apiece.

Virender Sehwag, DD’s skipper and the player of the match, scored 50 off
27 balls, which included seven boundaries and a couple of sixes.
The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 33 balls. While Sehwag’s contribution
to the partnership was 33, Dhawan’s contribution to it was 17. Extras’ contribution
to the partnership was a couple.
DD scored 100 off 10.5 overs (65 balls). DC had conceded a couple of extras
at that point.
Seventy balls (11.4 overs) into the chase, DD copped a penalty, because
the ball struck the fielding team’s helmet.
The second-wicket pair put on 100 off 55 balls. While Sehwag’s contribution
to the partnership was 65, Dhawan’s contribution to it was 25. Extras’ contribution
to the partnership was 11.
Sehwag, whose 41-ball innings included 10 boundaries and half-a-dozen
extras, eventually scored 94. He was unbeaten, as was Dhawan, who didn’t add to
the aforementioned score. His 28-ball innings included three boundaries.
DC eventually conceded a dozen extras. DD, who scored 143 for the loss
of a wicket off 13 overs, won by nine wickets with seven overs to spare.
Pragyan, who bowled an over, (Oj)had no reason to be in seventh heaven –
he was wicketless.
Symonds, Bangar and Afridi bowled a couple of wicketless overs apiece.
They conceded 35, 30, and 17, respectively.
Vaas bowled three wicketless overs, conceding 22.
Singh bowled three overs, conceding 27. He picked up the only wicket to
fall.
