Yuvraj pleased; KXIP disappoint Bangalore

RCB made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Bharat Chipli and Mark Boucher made way for Cameron White and Devraj Patil.

KXIP made a couple of changes to their playinG(0)eleven – Kumar Sangakkara and Karan made way for Ramnaresh Sarwan and Twenty20 debutant Uday Kaul.

On winning the toss, Yuvraj Singh, KXIP’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of RCB’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 26, and lost three wickets.

Wasim Jaffer, who faced four balls, didn’t get off the mark. Four balls into the match, he was caught by Kaul. Sreesanth, the player of the match, broke the one-run stand.

The second-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. White, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, he was dismissed by Sreesanth.

The third-wicket pair put on 14. Jacques Kallis, who faced three balls, didn’t get off the mark. Sixteen balls later, Shaun Marsh ran him out.

RCB scored 50 off 10 overs (60 balls). KXIP had conceded four extras at that point.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 49 balls. While Virat Kohli’s contribution to the partnership was 22, the contribution of Rahul Dravid, RCB’s skipper, to it was 26. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

Kohli, whose 36-ball innings included five boundaries, eventually scored 34. Fifty-two balls after Kallis’ dismissal, he was caught by Sreesanth. Irfan Pathan broke the 54-run partnership.

Although his innings included a boundary, Misbah-ul-Haq had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored eight. Twenty balls (Chaw)later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Piyush, who broke the 29-run stand.

The sixth-wicket pair didn’t get off the (Ku)mark. Praveen, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t open his account. A couple of balls (Chaw)later, he was caught by Kaul off the bowling of the leggie.

RCB scored 100 off 16 overs (96 balls). KXIP had conceded 10 extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

The seventh-wicket pair put on four. Patil, who faced a ball, scored a boundary. A couple of balls later, Pathan ran him out.

Zaheer Khan, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. Chawla had a reason to be in seventh heaven – he broke the 14-run stand.

Dravid’s half-century – which included seven boundaries – came off 44 balls.

He eventually scored 66 off 51 balls, which included nine boundaries and a six. Seven balls after Khan’s dismissal, he was caught by Mahela Jayawardene. V R V Singh broke the eight-run stand.

The last-wicket pair put on a couple. Anil Kumble had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored just three. Five balls later, Kaul ran him out.

Dale Steyn, who faced three balls, scored a run. He was unbeaten.

RCB were dismissed for 126 off 19.2 overs.

James Hopes bowled an over, conceding 10. He was wicketless, as was Gagandeep Singh, who bowled three overs, conceding 28.

Pathan bowled 3.2 overs, conceding 13. He picked up a wicket, as did V R V, who bowled four overs, conceding 33.

Sreesanth bowled four overs, conceding 16. He picked up a couple of wickets.

Chawla bowled four overs, conceding 25. He picked up three scalps.

The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 52, and lost a wicket.

Hopes, whose four-ball innings included a boundary, scored five. Eight balls into the chase, he was caught by White. Khan broke the 11-run stand.

RCB scored 50 off 5.3 overs (33 balls). KXIP had conceded nine extras at that point.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 37 balls. While Marsh’s contribution to the partnership was 13, Sarwan’s contribution to it was 29. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was eight.

Sarwan, whose 29-ball innings included four boundaries and a six, eventually scored 31. Forty-two balls after Hopes’ dismissal, he was caught by Patil. Kumar broke the 54-run partnership.

Yuvraj, who faced four balls, scored a run. Eleven balls later, he was caught by Patil. Kumar broke the 16-run stand.

RCB scored 100 off 13.1 overs (79 balls). KXIP had conceded 15 extras at that point.

Marsh, whose 34-ball innings included four boundaries and a six, scored 39. Twenty-three balls after Yuvraj’s dismissal, Khan broke the 25-run stand.

Both Jayawardene and Pathan scored 17 apiece, and were unbeaten. While the former’s 22-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, the latter’s run-a-ball innings included a boundary and a six.

KXIP eventually conceded 17 extras. RCB, who scored 127 for the loss of four wickets off 18.2 overs, won by half-a-dozen wickets with 10 balls to spare.

Kallis bowled three wicketless overs, conceding 14.

Kumble bowled 3.2 wicketless overs, conceding 36.

Steyn bowled four wicketless overs, conceding 16.

Khan and Kumar bowled four overs each, picking up a couple of scalps apiece. While the former conceded 29, the latter, whose spell included a maiden, conceded 22.
