Bangalore lose to Gilchrist-led DC

Neither DC nor RCB made any changes to their playing eleven.

On winning the toss, Anil Kumble, RCB’s skipper and the player of the match, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of DC’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 31, and lost a couple of wickets.

DC’s openers didn’t get off the mark. Adam Gilchrist, DC’s skipper and the player of the series, faced three balls, failing to open his account. Three balls into the match, he was dismissed by Kumble.

Tirumalasetti Suman, whose 11-ball innings included a boundary, scored 10. Eighteen balls later, he was caught by Manish Pandey. Vinay Kumar broke the run-a-ball stand.

DC scored 50 off 7.2 overs (44 balls). RCB had conceded three extras at that point.

Andrew Symonds, whose 21-ball innings included four boundaries and a six, scored 33. Thirty-two balls after Suman’s dismissal, the (Kumb)leggie broke the 40-run stand.

DC scored 100 off 14.5 overs (89 balls). The number of extras they had conceded at that point gave no reason to be in seventh heaven.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 41 balls. While Herschelle Gibbs’ contribution to the partnership was 23, Rohit Sharma’s contribution to it was 24. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was three.

Sharma, whose 23-ball innings included a boundary and a six, didn’t add to the aforementioned score. Forty-five balls after Symonds’ dismissal, he was caught by Pandey. Kumble broke the 52-run partnership.

Gibbs’ half-century – which included three boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 47 balls.

He eventually scored 53 off 48 balls, and was unbeaten.

Venugopal Rao, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t open his account. Four balls after Sharma’s dismissal, he was caught by Ross Taylor. Kumble broke the five-run stand.

Azhar Bilakhia had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored half-a-dozen. Thirteen balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Vinay, who broke the 19-run stand.

Ryan Harris, who faced five balls, scored nine. He was unbeaten.

DC eventually conceded eight extras. RCB scored 143 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 20 overs.

Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.

Praveen Kumar, Roelof van der Merwe and Jacques Kallis were wicketless. They conceded 43, 28, and 24, respectively.

Vinay, who bowled four overs, conceded 30. He picked up a couple of wickets.

Kumble, who bowled four overs, conceded 16. He picked up a wicket.

The first Powerplay of RCB’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 36, and lost a wicket.

Kallis, whose 17-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 15. Twenty-one balls into the chase, Rudra Pratap Singh – the holder of Purple Cap – broke the 20-run stand.

Pandey, who faced eight balls, scored just four. Sixteen balls later, he was caught by Gilchrist. Pragyan Ojha broke the run-a-ball stand.

RCB scored 50 off 7.5 overs (47 balls). DC had conceded three extras at that point.

Van der Merwe, whose 21-ball innings included a boundary and three sixes, scored 32. Fourteen balls later, he was (Gilchri)stumped. Ojha broke the 21-run stand.

Ten overs into the chase, the drinks break was taken. RCB had scored 69 for the loss of three wickets at that point. While Rahul Dravid had scored four, Ross Taylor was unbea‘ten’.

Dravid, who faced 13 balls, eventually scored nine. Nineteen balls later, Harmeet Singh broke the 22-run stand.

Taylor, whose 20-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, eventually scored 27. Sixteen balls later, he was caught by Rao. Symonds broke the 20-run stand.

The sixth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Although his eight-ball innings included a boundary, Virat Kohli had no reason to be in seventh heaven – the next ball, he was (Gilchri)stumped off the bowling of Symonds.

RCB scored 100 off 14.4 overs (88 balls). DC had conceded five extras at that point.

Boucher, whose six-ball innings included a boundary, scored five. Eight balls later, he was caught by Gibbs. Harmeet broke the run-a-ball stand.

Uthappa, whose 15-ball innings included a six, scored 17. He was unbeaten.
