DC made four Ch(amind)anges to their playing eleven – Venugopal Rao, Azhar Bilakhia, Ryan Harris and Harmeet Singh made way for V V S Laxman, the Singhs (Anirudh and Jaskaran) and Vaas.
KKR (Shar)made seven changes to their playing eleven – Brendon McCullum,
Yashpal Singh, David Hussey, Shaoib Shaikh, Ajit Agarkar, Ashok Dinda and Sourav
Sarkar made way for Manoj Tiwary, Cheteshwar Pujara, Owais Shah, Angelo Mathews
(the player of the match), Wriddhiman Saha, Murali Kartik and Ishant.
On winning the toss, Adam Gilchrist, DC’s skipper, chose to field.
The first Powerplay of KKR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 38, and lost four wickets.
KKR’s openers didn’t get off the (Shar)mark. Manoj Tiwary, who faced a
ball, didn’t open his account. A ball into the match, he was caught by Rohit
off the bowling of Vaas.
The second-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Sourav Ganguly, KKR’s
skipper, faced three balls, failing to open his account. Three balls later, he
was caught by Anirudh off the bowling of Vaas.
Pujara, whose 16-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored
10. Twenty-four balls later, he was caught by Pragyan Ojha. Rudra Pratap Singh
broke the 31-run stand.
The fourth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Brad Hodge, whose
nine-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 13. Three balls later,
he was caught by Herschelle Gibbs off the bowling of Jaskaran.
KKR scored 50 off as many balls (8.2 overs). DC had conceded eight
extras at that point.
The fifth-wicket pair put on 50 off 53 balls. While Shah’s contribution to
the partnership was 15, Mathews’ contribution to it was 32. Extras’ contribution
to the partnership was three.
Mathews’ half-century – which included four boundaries and three sixes –
came off 38 balls.
KKR scored 100 off 15.4 overs (94 balls). DC had conceded a dozen extras
at that point.
The fifth-wicket pair put on 100 off 75 balls. While Shah’s contribution
to the partnership was 42, Mathews’ contribution to it was 53. Extras’ contribution
to the partnership was five.
KKR scored 150 off 18.5 overs (114 balls). DC had conceded 14 extras at
that point.
Shah’s half-century – which included three boundaries and a couple of sixes
– came off 43 balls.
He eventually scored 58 off 46 balls, which included the aforementioned number
of boundaries and as many sixes. He was unbeaten, as was Mathews, who
eventually scored 65 off 46 balls, which included five boundaries and four sixes.
DC eventually conceded 15 extras. KKR scored 161 for the loss of four
wickets off 20 overs.
Tirumalasetti Suman, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded 16.
Andrew Symonds and Ojha bowled four wicketless overs apiece. While the
former conceded 26, the latter conceded 19.
The Singhs (Rudra Pratap and Jaskaran) bowled four overs, conceding 35,
each, picking up a wicket apiece.
Vaas bowled three overs, including a maiden. He conceded 22, picking up two
scalps.

dismissal, he was caught by Tiwary. Hodge broke the 38-run stand.
DC scored 100 off 11.2 overs (69 balls). KKR had conceded half-a-dozen extras
at that point.
Gibbs, whose 24-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 19.
Seven balls later, he was caught by Mathews. Charl Langeveldt broke the
three-run stand.
Symonds, who faced nine balls, scored five. Eleven balls later, he was
caught by Ganguly. Ishant broke the 14-run stand.
Rohit, whose 12-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 13.
A dozen balls later, he was caught by Hodge. Mathews broke the 13-run stand.
Anirudh, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, scored 14. Ten
ballS(huk)later, he was caught by Laxmi Ratan, who broke the 13-run stand.
Although he was unbeaten, Suman, whose nine-ball innings included a
boundary, had no reason to be in seventh heaven.
DC scored 150 off 19.5 overs (121 balls). KKR had conceded a dozen extras
at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.
Chaminda Vaas, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. Three balls
later, Langeveldt broke the one-run stand.
Jaskaran, who faced four balls, scored as many. He was unbeaten.
DC, who scored 150 for the loss of seven wickets off 20 overs, lost by
11 runs.
Hodge bowled two overs, conceding 14. He picked up a wicket.
Shukla and Kartik bowled three overs each, picking up a wicket apiece.
While the former conceded 30, the latter conceded 17.
Ishant and Mathews bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece.
While the former conceded 31, the latter conceded 27.
Langeveldt bowled four overs, conceding 26. He picked up two scalps.
