Bangalore lose to Warne-led RR

RR made a couple of changes to their playing (Mork)eleven – Shane Harwood and Siddharth Trivedi made way for Morne and Munaf Patel.

RCB made no changes to their playing eleven.

On winning the toss, Shane Warne, RR’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of RCB’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 29, and lost three wickets.

Wasim Jaffer, whose nine-ball innings included a boundary, scored eight. Fourteen balls into the match, he was caught by Lee Carseldine. Amit Singh, the player of the match, broke the 10-run stand.

Jacques Kallis, whose 14-ball innings included a six, scored 10. Fourteen balls later, he was caught by Niraj Patel. Munaf broke the 12-run stand.

RCB scored 50 off 10.2 overs (63 balls). RR had conceded four extras at that point.

Roelof van der Merwe, whose 16-ball innings included a boundary, scored 15. Fifteen balls later, Singh broke the 13-run stand.

The eighth-wicket pair had no reason to be in seventh heaven. Although his four-ball innings included a six, Praveen Kumar had no reason to be in seventh heaven – four balls later, Morkel ran him out.

RCB scored 100 off 18.3 overs (111 balls). RR had conceded five extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

The second-wicket pair put on 21. Carseldine, whose eight-ball innings included a boundary, scored nine. Eighteen balls later, Kohli and Boucher ran him out.

RR scored 50 off nine overs (54 balls). RCB hadn’t conceded any extras at that point.

Ten overs into the chase, the drinks break was taken. RR had scored 62 for the loss of a couple of wickets at that point. While Ojha had scored 26, Yusuf Pathan was in seventh heaven.

Pathan, whose 19-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 22. Thirty-one balls after Carseldine’s dismissal, he was caught by Jaffer. Du Preez broke the 43-run stand.

RR scored 100 off 14.5 overs (89 balls). RCB had conceded three extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Ojha’s half-century – which included three boundaries and as many sixes – came off 38 balls. In fact, he eventually scored 38, and was unbeaten, as was Jadeja, who faced three balls, scoring a run.
