Dhoni shines; CSK beat Kolkata

KKR made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Cheteshwar Pujara and Charl Langeveldt made way for Laxmi Ratan Shukla and Shane Bond.

CSK made one change to their playing eleven – Sudeep Tyagi made way for Manpreet Gony.

On winning the toss, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s skipper and the player of the match, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of CSK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 31, and lost a wicket.

Matthew Hayden, who faced eight balls, scored just a run. Nineteen balls into the (Shar)match, Ishant broke the 16-run stand.

CSK scored 50 off 8.3 overs (51 balls). KKR had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Murali Vijay, whose 26-ball innings included five boundaries, scored 33. Thirty-three balls after Hayden’s dismissal, Shukla broke the 37-run stand.

Suresh Raina, whose 20-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 18. Three balls later, Brad Hodge broke the two-run stand.

CSK scored 100 off 15.4 overs (94 balls). KKR had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 42 balls. While Subramaniam’s contribution to the partnership was (Badrina)thirty, Dhoni’s contribution to it was 22. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

Dhoni’s half-century – which included four boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 28 balls.

CSK scored 150 off 19.1 overs (115 balls). KKR had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 100 off 61 balls. While Badrinath’s contribution to the partnership was 40, Dhoni’s contribution to it was 60. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

Both Badrinath and Dhoni eventually faced 33 balls apiece, and were unbeaten. The former, whose innings included three boundaries and a six, scored 43, the latter, whose innings included half-a-dozen boundaries and three sixes, scored 66.

KKR eventually conceded three extras. CSK scored 164 for the loss of three wickets off 20 overs.

Angelo Mathews, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 29.

Bond and Murali Kartik bowled four wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 33, the latter conceded 21.

Hodge, who bowled an over, conceded four. He picked up a wicket, as did Sharma and Shukla, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former conceded 38, the latter conceded 37.

The first Powerplay of KKR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 45, and lost three wickets.

KKR’s openers didn’t get off the mark. Hodge, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t open his account. A couple of balls into the chase, he was caught by Ravichandran Ashwin off the bowling of Albie Morkel.

Manoj Tiwary, who faced three balls, scored eight. His runs came by way of boundaries. Gony had a reason to be in seventh heaven – he broke the eight-run stand.

Wriddhiman Saha, whose 13-ball innings included five boundaries, scored 22. Twenty-one balls later, Lakshmipathy Balaji broke the 26-run stand.

Owais Shah, whose four-ball innings included a boundary, scored five. Eight balls later, he was caught by Dhoni. Balaji broke the 12-run stand.

KKR scored 50 off 7.2 overs (44 balls). CSK had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Sourav Ganguly, KKR’s skipper, scored 11. His 20-ball innings (Just)included a boundary. Eleven balls after Shah’s dismissal, he was caught by Morkel. Kemp broke the nine-run stand.

Mathews, who faced 13 balls, scored half-a-dozen. Thirteen balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Kemp, who broke the 14-run stand.

Rohan Gavaskar, who faced eight balls, scored just a couple. Thirteen balls later, he was caught by Vijay. Kemp broke the 10-run stand.

Shukla, whose 16-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 19. Five balls later, he was caught by Morkel. Muttiah Muralitharan, who broke the three-run stand.

Bond, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Five balls later, Ashwin broke the one-run stand.

KKR scored 100 off 16.4 overs (100 balls). CSK had conceded eight extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

The last-wicket pair put on 25. Kartik, whose 20-ball innings included a boundary, scored 21. Thirty-one balls later, Badrinath ran him out.

Sharma, who faced 15 balls, scored just half-a-dozen. He was unbeaten.

KKR, who were bundled out for 109 off 19.2 overs, lost by 55 runs.

Raina, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded half-a-dozen.

Morkel bowled a couple of overs, including a maiden. He conceded half-a-dozen, picking up a wicket.

Gony, who bowled three overs, conceded 33. He picked up a wicket.

Ashwin and Muralitharan bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 22, the latter conceded 16.

Balaji, who bowled 2.2 overs, conceded nine. He picked up two wickets.
