Kumble-led RCB beat Punjab comfortably

RCB made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Shreevats Goswami and Roelof van der Merwe made way for Mark Boucher and Vinay Kumar.

KXIP (Shar)made one change to their playing eleven – Ramesh Powar made way for Bipul.

On winning the toss, Kumar Sangakkara, KXIP’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 50, without the loss of a wicket.

KXIP’s openers put on 50 off half-a-dozen overs (36 balls). RCB had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point. While Ravi Bopara’s contribution to the partnership was eight, Manvinder Bisla’s contribution to it was 36.

Bisla’s half-century – which included five boundaries and three sixes – came off 36 balls.

KXIP’s openers put on 100 off 11.5 overs (71 balls). The number of extras they had conceded at that point gave RCB no reason to be in seventh heaven. While Bopara’s contribution to the partnership was 28, Bisla’s contribution to it was 65.

Bisla, whose 51-ball innings included seven boundaries and four sixes, eventually scored 75. Eighty-five balls (Eo)into the match, he was caught by Morgan. Jacques Kallis, the player of the match, broke the 129-run partnership.

Yuvraj Singh, whose six-ball innings included a boundary, scored nine. Ten balls later, he was caught by Morgan. Dale Steyn broke the 12-run stand.

KXIP scored 150 off 16.4 overs (101 balls). RCB had conceded 10 extras at that point.

Bopara’s half-century – which included four boundaries and a six – came off 42 balls.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 21 balls. While Bopara’s contribution to the partnership was 29, Mahela Jayawardene’s contribution to it was 21. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was three.

Bopara, whose 50-ball innings included nine boundaries and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 77. Twenty-two balls after Yuvraj’s dismissal, he was caught by Anil Kumble, RCB’s skipper. Praveen Kumar broke the 53-run partnership.

Jayawardene, whose 13-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, eventually scored 26. He was unbeaten, as was Irfan Pathan, who faced a ball, scoring three.

KXIP scored 200 off 19.5 overs (120 balls). RCB had conceded 13 extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

KXIP eventually scored 203 for the loss of three wickets off 20 overs.

Virat Kohli and Vinay bowled a couple of wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 23, the latter conceded 19.

Kumble, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 40.

Praveen, Kallis and Steyn bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 43, 39, and 36, respectively.

RCB’s openers put on 50 off 5.2 overs (33 balls). KXIP had conceded eight extras at that point. While Manish Pandey’s contribution to the partnership was 20, Kallis’ contribution to it was 25.

Pandey, whose 26-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and three sixes, eventually scored 38. Fifty balls into the Cha(wla)se, he was caught by Pathan. Piyush broke the 74-run partnership.

RCB scored 100 off 11 overs (67 balls). KXIP had conceded nine extras at that point.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 26 balls. While Kallis’ contribution to the partnership was 17, Robin Uthappa’s contribution to it was 37. Extras’ didn’t contribute to the partnership.

While Uthappa’s half-century – which included four boundaries and as many sixes – came off 19 balls, Kallis’ half-century – which included five boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 42 balls.

Uthappa eventually scored 51 off 21 balls. Thirty-five balls after Pandey’s dismissal, he was caught by Mohammad Kaif. Sharma broke the 69-run partnership.

RCB scored 150 off 15.1 overs (92 balls). KXIP had conceded nine extras at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 24 balls. While Kallis’ contribution to the partnership was 39, Kohli’s contribution to it was 11. Extras’ didn’t contribute to the partnership.

RCB scored 200 off 18.4 overs (113 balls). KXIP had conceded 10 extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Kallis, whose 55-ball innings included eight boundaries and five sixes, eventually scored 89. He was unbeaten, as was Kohli, who eventually scored a dozen. His 16-ball innings included a boundary and a six.

RCB, who scored 204 for the loss of a couple of boundaries off 18.5 overs, lost by eight wickets with seven balls to spare.

Yuvraj and Bopara bowled a couple of wicketless over apiece. While the former conceded 18, the latter conceded 17.

Yusuf Abdulla, who bowled 2.5 wicketless overs, conceded 36.

Sreesanth and Pathan bowled three wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 38, the latter conceded 33.
