MI made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Ryan McLaren and
Ali Murtaza made way for the Trinidadians (Kieron Pollard and Dwayne
Bravo).
On winning the toss, Gautam Gambhir, DD’s skipper, chose to field.
The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 67, and lost a wicket.
Although his 10-ball innings included a boundary, Jayasuriya had no
reason to be in seventh heaven – 22 balls into the match, he was caught by the
substitute, Yogesh Nagar. Farveez Maharoof broke the (Sana)thirty-eight-run
stand.
MI scored 50 off 4.3 overs (27 balls). DD had conceded four extras at
that point.
Aditya Tare, whose 10-ball innings included a couple of sixes, scored
17. Seventeen balls after Jayasuriya’s dismissal, he was caught by Pradeep
Sangwan, who broke the 36-run stand.
Sachin Tendulkar, MI’s skipper and the player of the match, scored 50
off 23 balls, which included nine boundaries.
MI scored 100 off nine overs (54 balls). DD had conceded 10 extras at
that point.
Tendulkar eventually scored 63 off 32 balls, which included 11
boundaries. Twenty-six balls after Tare’s dismissal, he was caught by Nagar.
Amit Mishra broke the 48-run stand.
MI scored 150 off 13.5 overs (83 balls). DD had conceded 14 extras at
that point.
The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 30 balls. While Saurabh Tiwary’s
contribution to the partnership was 18, Ambati Rayudu’s contribution to it was
32. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.
Tiwary’s half-century – which included three boundaries and as many
sixes – came off 31 balls.
Rayudu, whose 21-ball innings included a boundary and three sixes,
eventually scored 34. Forty-one balls after Tendulkar’s dismissal, he was
caught by Tillakaratne Dilshan. Maharoof broke the 71-run partnership.
MI scored 200 off 18.1 overs (111 balls). DD had conceded 17 extras at that
point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.
The fifth-wicket pair put on a dozen. Tiwary, whose 37-ball innings
included four boundaries and three sixes, eventually scored 61. Seven balls
after Rayudu’s dismissal, Dinesh Karthik ran him out.
Bravo, whose four-ball innings included a six, scored nine. Four balls
later, he was caught by Mithun Manhas. Sarabjit Ladda broke the nine-run stand.
Pollard, whose eight-ball innings included a couple of boundaries,
scored 10. Three balls later, he was stumped by Karthik. Ladda broke the four-run
stand.
Rajagopal Sathish, who didn’t face a ball, was unbeaten.
MI scored 218 for the loss of seven wickets off 20 overs.
Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.
Dirk Nannes, who was wicketless, conceded 35.
Mishra and Sangwan picked up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded
44, the latter conceded 41.

Malinga bowled two overs, conceding 22. He picked up a wicket, as was
Pollard, who bowled four overs, conceded 24.
Bravo bowled two overs, conceding 11. He picked up two wickets.
Harbhajan, who bowled 2.3 overs, conceded 23. He picked up two wickets.
Jayasuriya, who bowled four overs, conceded 17. He picked up a couple of
scalps.
