DC made no changes to their playing eleven.
KXIP (Moham)made a couple of changes to their playing
eleven – Kaif and Yusuf Abdulla made way for Adrian Barath and Shalabh
Srivastava.
On winning the toss, Kumar Sangakkara, KXIP’s skipper,
chose to field.
The first Powerplay of DC’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 56, and lost a wicket.
Adam Gilchrist, DC’s skipper, scored 33. His 12-ball innings included
four boundaries and a couple of sixes. Three overs into the match, he was caught
by Mahela Jayawardene. Srivastava broke the 43-run stand.
Twenty-one balls into the match, V V S Laxman retired hurt. DC had
scored 45 for the loss of a wicket at that point, and the batsman, who was
batting on 10, had no reason to be in seventh heaven, despite the fact that his
innings included a boundary.
DC scored 50 off five overs (30 balls). KXIP had conceded an extra at
that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.
The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 41 balls. While Laxman’s contribution
to the partnership was a run, Herschelle Gibbs’ contribution to it was 23.
Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.
DC scored 100 off 10 overs (60 balls).
Gibbs, whose run-a-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, failed
to add to the aforementioned score. Forty-four balls after Gilchrist’s
dismissal (and 41 balls after Laxman retired hurt), Yuvraj Singh broke the
57-run partnership.
The third-wicket pair put on a couple. Rohit Sharma, who faced a couple
of balls, scored a run. Three balls later, Jayawardene ran him out.
Anirudh Singh, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the (Shar)mark. Five
balls later, he was caught by Sangakkara. Bipul broke the 10-run stand.
Andrew Symonds, the player of the match, scored 50 off 34 balls, which included
three boundaries and as many sixes.
He eventually scored 53 off 38 balls. Thirty balls after Anirudh’s
dismissal, he was caught by Bipul. Yuvraj broke the run-a-ball stand.
DC scored 150 off 17.4 overs (106 balls).
Chaminda Vaas, whose 10-ball innings included a boundary and a six,
scored 16. Thirteen balls after Symonds’ dismissal, he was caught by Bipul.
Irfan Pathan broke the 19-run stand.
The seventh-wicket pair put on a couple. Tirumalasetti Suman, whose 22-ball
innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 26. Three balls
later, Sangakkara ran him out.
The Singhs were unbeaten. While Jaskaran scored three off as many balls,
Rudra Pratap, who faced a couple of balls, scored four.
DC scored 170 for the loss of seven wickets off 20 overs.
Piyush Chawla, who bowled three overs, conceded 24. He was wicketless,
as was Sreesanth, who bowled four overs, conceding 51.
Bipul, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 19. He picked up a wicket.
Pathan, who bowled three overs, conceded 16. He picked up a wicket.
Srivastava, who bowled four overs, conceded 39. He picked up a wicket.
Yuvraj, who bowled four overs, conceded 21. He picked up a couple of
scalps.

KXIP’s openers put on 10. Manvinder Bisla had no reason to be in seventh
heaven – he didn’t get off the mark. Fourteen balls into the chase, Suman ran
him out.
Sangakkara, who faced three balls, didn’t get off the mark. Four balls
later, his compatriot, Vaas broke the one-run stand.
Yuvraj, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored four. His runs came by way
of a boundary. A couple of balls later, he was caught by Gibbs. Vaas broke the
11-run stand.
Jayawardene, whose nine-ball innings included three boundaries, scored
14. Sixteen balls later, Symonds broke the 24-run stand.
KXIP scored 50 off 8.3 overs (51 balls). DC had conceded a couple of extras
at that point.
Although his 10-ball innings included a boundary, Barath had no reason
to be in seventh heaven – 15 balls after Jayawardene’s dismissal, he was caught
by Rohit. Pragyan Ojha broke the 11-run stand.
Ravi Bopara, whose 32-ball innings included five boundaries, scored 38.
Eleven balls later, he was caught by Symonds. Rohit broke the run-a-ball stand.
KXIP scored 100 off 15.1 overs (91 balls). DC had conceded eight extras
at that point.
Chawla, whose 13-ball innings included a boundary, scored nine.
Twenty-five balls later, he was caught by Ojha. Rudra Pratap broke the 36-run
stand.
Pathan’s half-century – which included three boundaries and four sixes –
came off 25 balls.
KXIP scored 150 off 18.5 overs (113 balls). DC had conceded a dozen extras
at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually
conceded.
Pathan, whose 29-ball innings included the aforementioned number of
boundaries, in addition to five sixes, eventually scored 60. Eighteen balls after
Chawla’s dismissal, he was caught by Symonds. Jaskaran broke the 48-run stand.
Bipul, whose six-ball innings included a boundary, scored eight. He was
unbeaten, as was Sreesanth, who scored a dozen off five balls. His runs came by
way of boundaries.
KXIP, who scored 164 for the loss of eight wickets off 20 overs, lost by
half-a-dozen runs.
Jaskaran, who bowled an over, conceded 12. He picked up a wicket.
Rohit, who bowled three overs, conceded 19. He picked up a wicket.
Rudra Pratap, Ojha and Symonds bowled four overs each, picking up a
wicket apiece. While the former conceded 43, 31, and 22, respectively.
Vaas, who bowled four overs, conceded 27. He picked up two scalps.
