CSK made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Manpreet Gony and Joginder (Shar)made way for Twenty20 debutant Sudeep Tyagi and Shadab Jakati.
RR made one change to their playing eleven – Paul Valthaty made way for
Siddharth Trivedi.
On winning the toss, Shane Warne, RR’s skipper, chose to field.
The first Powerplay of CSK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 40, and lost a couple
of wickets.
Matthew Hayden, who faced a couple of balls, score a run. Yusuf Pathan had
a reason to be in seventh heaven – he broke the four-run stand.
Parthiv, who faced (Pat)eleven balls, scored just three. Fourteen balls
later, he was caught by Kamran Khan. Pathan broke the 13-run stand.
CSK scored 50 off 7.1 overs (43 balls). RR hadn’t conceded any extras at
that point.
The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 33 balls. While the contribution of
Suresh Raina, the player of the match, to the partnership was 27, Subramaniam
Badrinath’s contribution to it was 25. Extras didn’t contribute to the
partnership.
Ten overs into the match, the drinks break was taken. CSK had scored 81 for
the loss of a couple of wickets at that point. While Raina’s contribution to
the partnership was 50, Badrinath’s contribution to it was 27.
Raina’s half-century – which included five boundaries and three sixes –
came off 26 balls.
Badrinath, whose 27-ball innings included four boundaries, eventually
scored 29. Forty-six balls after Parthiv’s dismissal, he was stumped by Mahesh
Rawat. Warne broke the 67-run partnership.
Jacob Oram, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored a couple. Ten balls
later, he was caught by Dimitri Mascarenhas. Munaf Patel broke the four-run
stand.
CSK scored 100 off 14.4 overs (88 balls). RR had conceded an extra at
that point.
The fifth-wicket pair put on 50 off 33 balls. While Raina’s contribution
to the partnership was 37, the contribution of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s
skipper, to it was a dozen. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a
couple.
CSK scored 150 off 18.5 overs (114 balls). RR had conceded four extras
at that point.
Raina, whose 55-ball innings included 1o boundaries and five sixes,
eventually scored 98. Forty-two balls after Oram’s dismissal, he was caught by
Graeme Smith. Munaf broke the 71-run partnership.
The man from Ranchi eventually scored 22. His (Dho)nineteen-ball innings
included a six. He was unbeaten, as was Albie Morkel, who faced a ball, scoring
a boundary.
RR eventually conceded five extras. CSK scored 164 for the loss of five
wickets off 20 overs.
Khan, who bowled 2.4 wicketless overs, conceded 35.
Trivedi, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 35.
Mascarenhas, who bowled 3.2 wicketless overs, conceded 26.
Warne, who bowled four overs, conceded 24. He picked up a wicket.
Pathan, who bowled three overs, conceded 17. He picked up a couple of
scalps, as did Munaf, who bowled four overs, conceding 25.

who broke the 20-run stand.
RR scored 50 off 8.5 overs (53 balls). The number of extras they had
conceded gave CSK no reason to be in seventh heaven.
Rob Quiney, whose 31-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 28.
Twenty-four balls after Asnodkar’s dismissal, he was trapped leg before wicket
by Raina, who broke the 26-run stand.
Ten overs into the chase, the drinks break was taken. RR had scored 61 for
the loss of three wickets at that point. While Ravindra Jadeja was batting on
eight, Pathan had scored half-a-dozen.
Pathan, whose 13-ball innings included three boundaries, eventually
scored 20. Twenty-one balls after Quiney’s dismissal, he was caught by Raina. Lakshmipathy
Balaji broke the 31-run stand.
Mascarenhas, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, scored eight.
A couple of overs later, he was caught by Muttiah Muralitharan. Oram broke the
run-a-ball stand.
RR scored 100 off 15.2 overs (92 balls). The number of extras they had
conceded gave CSK no reason to be in seventh heaven.
From the 17th over (which was bowled by Oram), Parthiv kept
wickets in place of Dhoni.
Jadeja, whose 33-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six,
eventually scored 37. Fifteen balls after Mascarenhas’ dismissal, he was caught
by Matthew Hayden. Balaji broke the 16-run stand.
Warne, who faced nine balls, scored just three. Three balls later, he
was caught by Badrinath. Balaji broke the run-a-ball stand.
Rawat, whose six-ball innings included a boundary, scored eight. He was
unbeaten.
The eighth-wicket pair put on a run. Munaf, who faced a ball, didn’t
open his account. A ball after Warne’s dismissal, he was caught by Parthiv off
the bowling of Oram.
Trivedi, who faced three balls, scored a couple. Eight balls later, he
was caught by Raina. Balaji broke the nine-run stand.
Khan was absent hurt.
CSK eventually conceded eight extras. RR, who were dismissed for 126 off
19.3 overs, lost by 38 runs.
Tyagi, who bowled two overs, conceded eight. He was wicketless, as was
Muralitharan, who bowled four overs, conceding 33.
Raina, who bowled two overs, conceded 11. He picked up a wicket.
Oram and Morkel bowled four overs apiece, picking up two wickets apiece.
While the former conceded 27, the latter conceded 21.
Balaji, who bowled 3.3 overs, conceded 21. He picked up four scalps.
