Tendulkar-led MI beat Kolkata narrowly

MI made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Shikhar Dhawan and Dwayne Bravo made way for Graham Napier and Ajinkya Rahane.

KKR made no changes to their playing eleven.

On winning the toss, Sachin Tendulkar, MI’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 40, and lost a couple of wickets.

Sanath Jayasuriya, whose eight-ball innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen. Twenty balls into the match, he was caught by Morne van Wyk. Ashok Dinda broke the 19-run stand.

Harbhajan Singh had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored half-a-dozen. Fifteen balls later, he was caught by Dinda. Murali Kartik broke the 21-run stand.

MI scored 50 off 7.4 overs (46 balls). KKR had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

Tendulkar, whose 30-ball innings included three boundaries and a couple of sixes, scored 34. A dozen balls after Harbhajan’s dismissal, he was caught by Brendon McCullum, KKR’s skipper. Ajit Agarkar broke the 14-run stand.

Ten overs into the match, the drinks break was taken. MI had scored 61 and lost three wickets at that point. Both Abhishek Nayar and Jean-Paul Duminy, the player of the match, had scored four apiece.

Nayar, whose 13-ball innings included a boundary, eventually scored 10. Twenty-three balls after Tendulkar’s dismissal, Brad Hodge broke the 17-run stand.

Napier, whose 16-ball innings included a boundary, scored 15. Twenty-five balls later, he was caught by McCullum. Chris Gayle broke the 25-run stand.

MI scored 100 off 16.3 overs (99 balls). KKR had conceded 10 extras at that point.

Rahane, whose eight-ball innings included a boundary, scored 10. Eighteen balls after Napier’s dismissal, he was caught by Gayle. Ishant Sharma broke the 35-run stand.

Duminy’s half-century – which included a boundary and four sixes – came off 37 balls. In fact, he eventually scored 52, and was unbeaten, as was Zaheer Khan, who faced a couple of balls, scoring as many.

KKR eventually conceded 13 extras. MI scored 148 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 20 overs.

Laxmi Ratan Shukla, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 25.

The following bowlers picked up a scalp apiece.

Agarkar, who bowled an over, conceded a dozen.

Hodge, who bowled two overs, conceded 13.

Dinda and Kartik bowled three overs apiece. While the former conceded 27, the latter conceded 20.

Sharma and Gayle bowled four overs apiece. While the former conceded 24, the latter conceded 21.

Sourav Ganguly, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. Four balls into the chase, Khan broke the one-run stand.

Gayle, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – 10 balls later, Khan broke the seven-run stand.

KKR scored 50 off 8.3 overs (51 balls). MI had conceded three extras at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 43 balls. While Hodge’s contribution to the partnership was 31, van Wyk’s contribution to it was 15. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was four.

Ten overs into the match, the drinks break was chase. MI had scored 60 and lost a couple of wickets at that point. While Hodge was batting on 33, van Wyk was batting on 16.

Hodge’s half-century – which included four boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 44 balls.

Van Wyk, whose 35-ball innings included three boundaries, eventually scored 32. Eighty-one balls after Gayle’s dismissal, he was caught by Duminy. Napier broke the 89-run partnership.

KKR scored 1o0 off 15.2 overs (92 balls). MI had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

Shukla had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored half-a-dozen. Fifteen balls later, Khan broke the 22-run stand.

The fifth-wicket pair put on 11. Hodge, whose 60-ball innings included five boundaries and three sixes, eventually scored 73. Ten balls later, Duminy and Pinal Shah ran him out.

McCullum had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored five. (Lasi)Three balls later, he was caught by Malinga. Nayar broke the two-run stand.

Wriddhiman Saha, whose four-ball innings included a boundary, scored eight. He was unbeaten, as was Agarkar, who didn’t face a ball.

MI eventually conceded eight extras. KKR, who scored 139 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 20 overs, lost by nine runs.

Jayasuriya, who bowled an over, conceded 13. He was wicketless, as were Harbhajan and Malinga, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former conceded 24, the latter conceded 23.

Nayar, who bowled three overs, conceded 20. He picked up a wicket, as did Napier, who bowled four overs, conceding 27.
