Sehwag-led DD halt Hyderabad’s juggernaut

DC made one change to their playing eleven – V V S Laxman made way for Tirumalasetti Suman.

DD made no changes to their playing eleven.

On winning the toss, Virender Sehwag, DD’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of DC’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 37, and lost a couple of wickets.

Adam Gilchrist, DC’s skipper, faced five balls, scoring eight. His runs came by way of boundaries. Five balls into the match, he was caught by Dinesh Karthik. Dirk Nannes, the player of the match, broke the eight-run stand.

Herschelle Gibbs, who faced four balls, didn’t get off the mark. Ten balls later, he was caught by A B de Villiers. Nannes broke the 11-run stand.

DC scored 50 off 8.2 overs (51 balls). DD had conceded five extras at that point.

Rohit Sharma, whose 20-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 17. Thirty-nine balls after Gibbs’ dismissal, he was caught by Mithun Manhas. Amit Mishra broke the 33-run stand.

Azharuddin Bilakhia, whose 27-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 22. A couple of balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Daniel Vettori, who broke the one-run stand.

Ten overs into the match, the drinks break was taken. DC had scored 55 for the loss of four wickets at that point. While Suman had scored a couple, Dwayne Smith had scored a run.

DC scored 100 off 13.1 overs (80 balls). DD had conceded eight extras at that point.

The fifth-wicket pair put on 50 off 25 balls. While Suman’s contribution to the partnership was eight, Smith’s contribution to it was 39. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was three.

Suman, whose 14-ball innings included a boundary and a six, eventually scored 23. Thirty-three balls after Bilakhia’s dismissal, he was caught by de Villiers. Pradeep Sangwan broke the 65-run partnership.

Smith, whose 28-ball innings included five boundaries and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 48. Nineteen balls later, he was caught by Vettori. Ashish Nehra broke the 21-run stand.

The seventh-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Shoaib Ahmed, who faced three balls, didn’t open his account. Three balls later, Karthik ran him out.

Venugopal Rao, whose 15-ball innings included a boundary, scored 16. Eight balls later, Nehra broke the run-a-ball stand.

Rudra Pratap Singh, who faced four balls, scored a couple. He was unbeaten.

The ninth-wicket pair put on a run. Pragyan Ojha, who faced a ball, scored a run. A ball after Rao’s dismissal, Vettori and Karthik ran him out.

DD eventually conceded 11 extras. DC scored 148 for the loss of nine wickets off 20 overs.

Tillakaratne Dilshan, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded 15.

Vettori, who bowled three overs, conceded 23. He picked up a wicket, as did Mishra and Sangwan, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former conceded 32, the latter conceded 24.

Nehra and Nannes bowled four overs each, picking up a couple of scalps apiece. While the former conceded 30, the latter conceded 16.

Gautam Gambhir, whose 15-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 17. Eleven balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Ahmed, who broke the 14-run stand.

DD scored 50 off seven overs (42 balls). DC had conceded three extras at that point.

Ten overs into the chase, the drinks break was taken. DD had scored 70 for the loss of three wickets at that point. While Dilshan had scored seven, Karthik was batting on 15.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 25 balls. While Dilshan’s contribution to the partnership was 18, Karthik’s contribution to it was 28. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was four.

DD scored 100 off 14.3 overs (87 balls). DC had conceded eight extras at that point.

Karthik, whose 30-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, eventually scored 41. Sixty-two balls after Gambhir’s dismissal, he was trapped leg before wicket by Ojha, who broke the 79-run partnership.

DD scored 150 (for the loss of four wickets) off 18.4 overs (113 balls), winning by half-a-dozen wickets with eight balls to spare. DC had conceded a dozen extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Dilshan’s half-century – which included four boundaries and three sixes – came off 46 balls. In fact, he eventually scored 52, and was unbeaten, as was Manhas, who faced a couple of balls, scoring three.

Sharma and Smith bowled a wicketless over apiece. While the former conceded 10, the latter conceded eight.

Rao bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceding 20.

Fidel Edwards bowled 3.4 wicketless overs, conceding 44.

Singh bowled three overs, conceding 20. He picked up a wicket, as did Ojha, who bowled four overs, conceding 24.

Ahmed bowled four overs, conceding 20. He picked up two scalps.
