KXIP made one change to their playing eleven – V R V Singh made way for Vikramjeet Malik.
MI made no changes to their playing eleven.
On winning the toss, Yuvraj Singh, KXIP’s skipper, chose to bat.
The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory
Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 26, and lost
a couple of wickets.
Karan Goel, whose run-a-ball innings included a six, scored a dozen.
Twenty-three balls into the match, he was stumped by Pinal Shah. Harbhajan
Singh broke the 18-run stand.
The second-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Bopara, who faced 14
balls, scored (Ra)VI. Four balls later, he was caught by Sachin Tendulkar, MI’s
skipper, off the bowling of Dwayne Bravo.

MI had conceded four extras at that point.
In fact, it was at that point that the drinks break was taken. While Kumar
Sangakkara, the player of the match, had scored a dozen, Mahela Jayawardene had
scored half-a-dozen.
Sangakkara, whose 44-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a
six, eventually scored 45. He was unbeaten.
Although he eventually faced nine balls, Jayawardene had no reason to be
in seventh heaven – a dozen balls after Yuvraj’s dismissal, he was caught by
Shikhar Dhawan. Sanath Jayasuriya broke the 11-run stand.
Irfan Pathan, who faced 10 balls, had no reason to be in seventh heaven –
24 balls later, he was caught by Bravo. Khan broke the 32-run stand.
Wilkin Mota, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored five. Eleven balls
later, Malinga broke the (Lasi)thirteen-run stand.

ball, didn’t open his account. A couple of balls (Chaw)later, he was dismissed
by Malinga.
KXIP scored 100 off 17.2 overs (104 balls). MI had conceded 17 extras at
that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually
conceded.
The eighth-wicket pair put on 22. Ramesh Powar, whose run-a-ball innings
included a boundary, scored 10. Twenty balls later, Shah ran him out.
KXIP scored 119 for the loss of eight wickets off 20 overs.
Tendulkar, who bowled an over, had no reason to be in seventh heaven –
he was wicketless.
Jayasuriya, who bowled an over, conceded five. He picked up a wicket.
Bravo and Duminy bowled three overs each, picking up a wicket apiece.
While the former conceded 24, the latter conceded 23.

While the former conceded 23, the latter conceded 19.
Malinga, who bowled four overs, conceded a dozen. He picked up a couple
of scalps.
The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 23, and lost three wickets.
Jayasuriya, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. A ball into the
chase, he was caught by Yuvraj. Pathan broke the one-run stand.
Tendulkar, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored just a run. Seven balls
later, he was caught by Jayawardene. Malik broke the three-run stand.
Dhawan had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored just three.
Seventeen balls (Abdul)later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Yusuf, who
broke the eight-run stand.
Bravo, whose 20-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 15.
Thirty-one balls later, he was caught by Mota. Powar broke the 33-run stand.
Ten overs into the chase, the drinks break was taken. MI had scored 47
for the loss of four wickets at that point. While Duminy had scored 22, Nayar had
scored (Abhish)ek.
MI scored 50 off 10.3 overs (64 balls). KXIP had conceded half-a-dozen
extras at that point.
Nayar, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, eventually scored
15. Forty-seven balls after Bravo’s dismissal, Pathan broke the 49-run stand.
Duminy’s half-century – which included four boundaries – came off 55 balls.
MI scored 100 off 17.5 overs (108 balls). KXIP had conceded 10 extras at
that point.
Harbhajan, whose five-ball innings included a boundary, scored
half-a-dozen. Half-a-dozen balls after Nayar’s dismissal, he was caught by
Goel. Needless to say, Chawla was in seventh heaven.
Duminy, whose 63-ball innings included four boundaries, eventually
scored 59. Nine balls later, he was caught by the substitute, Taruwar Kohli. Abdulla
broke the 12-run stand.
Saurabh Tiwary, who faced four balls, scored half-a-dozen. He was unbeaten,
as was Khan, who didn’t face a ball.
The Kings from Punjab eventually conceded XI extras. MI, who scored 119
