DD made three changes to their playing (Dani)eleven – Andrew McDonald, Sarabjit Ladda and Umesh Yadav made way for Vettori, Rajat Bhatia and Pradeep Sangwan.
RCB made three changes to their playing eleven – Manish Pandey, Praveen
Kumar and Dale Steyn made way for Ross Taylor, Abhimanyu Mithun and K P Appanna.
On winning the toss, Gautam Gambhir, DD’s skipper, chose to bat.
The first Powerplay of DD’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 54, and lost a couple
of wickets.
Virender Sehwag, whose 22-ball innings included five boundaries and a
couple of sixes, scored 35. Twenty-seven balls into the match, Mithun broke the
41-run partnership.
DD scored 50 off 5.2 overs (33 balls). RCB had conceded an extra at that
point.
The second-wicket pair put on 11. Gambhir, who faced a ball, scored a
run. Eight runs after Sehwag’s dismissal, Appanna ran him out.
David Warner, whose 22-ball innings included three boundaries and a
couple of sixes, scored 33. Twenty-four balls later, he was caught by Virat
Kohli. Anil Kumble, RCB’s skipper, broke the 31-run stand.
Dinesh Karthik, whose four-ball innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen.
Five balls later, he was caught by Cameron White. Needless to say, Appanna was
in seventh heaven.
DD scored 100 off 11.4 overs (71 balls). RCB had conceded a couple of extras
at that point.
Paul Collingwood, the player of the match, scored 50 off 37 balls, which
included a couple of boundaries and four sixes.
The fifth-wicket pair put on 34. Kedar Jadhav, who faced nine balls, had
no reason to be in seventh heaven – 24 balls later, Robin Uthappa ran him out.
DD scored 150 off 17.3 overs (106 balls). RCB had conceded four extras
at that point.
The sixth-wicket pair put on 50 off 29 balls. While Collingwood’s contribution
to the partnership was 35, Vettori’s contribution to it was 17. Extras’ contribution
to the partnership was a run.
Collingwood, whose 46-ball innings included three boundaries and seven sixes,
eventually scored 75. He was unbeaten, as was Vettori, who eventually scored
19. His 17-ball innings included a couple of boundaries.
RCB eventually conceded eight extras. DD scored 184 for the loss of five
wickets off 20 overs.
White and Kevin Pietersen bowled a wicketless over apiece. While the
former conceded 19, the latter conceded three.
Jacques Kallis bowled three wicketless overs, conceding 26.
Vinay Kumar bowled four wicketless overs, conceding 35.
Mithun bowled three overs, conceding 29. He picked up a wicket, as did Kumble
and Appanna, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former conceded 33, the
latter conceded 24.
The first Powerplay of RCB’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 38, and lost a wicket.
White, who faced 11 balls, scored just four. Twenty-one balls into the
chase, he was caught by Warner. Amit Mishra broke the 25-run stand.
RCB scored 50 off 8.5 overs (54 balls). DD had conceded a couple of extras
at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.
Pietersen, whose 19-ball innings included a six, scored 16. Thirty-five
balls after White’s dismissal, Sangwan broke the 27-run stand.
Uthappa, whose nine-ball innings included a six, scored a dozen. Fifteen
balls later, he was caught by Warner. Sangwan broke the 24-run stand.
RCB scored 100 off 14 overs (85 balls).
Taylor, whose 10-ball innings included three sixes, scored 22. Fifteen
balls after Uthappa’s dismissal, he was trapped leg before wicket by Bhatia,
who broke the 30-run stand.
Kallis’ half-century – which included five boundaries and a six – came off
38 balls.
He eventually faced 42 balls, scoring 54. Nine balls after Taylor’s
dismissal, he was caught by Collingwood. Sangwan broke the 12-run stand.
Kohli, whose 11-ball innings included a boundary, scored 13. Eleven
balls later, Farveez Maharoof broke the 16-run stand.
Vinay, who faced three balls, scored as many. Three balls later, Vettori
broke the three-run stand.
Rahul Dravid, whose nine-ball innings included a couple of boundaries,
scored 14. Seven balls later, he was caught by Warner. Mishra broke the
eight-run stand.
The ninth-wicket pair failed to get off the mark. Mithun, whose four-ball
innings included a boundary, scored five. The next ball, Mishra broke the
one-run stand.
Both Kumble and Appanna scored a run apiece, and were unbeaten. While
the former faced a ball, the latter faced a couple of balls.
RCB, who scored 147 for the loss of nine wickets off 20 overs, lost by 37
runs.
Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.
Vettori, Maharoof and Bhatia picked up a wicket apiece. They conceded
40, 28, and 24, respectively.
Mishra and Sangwan picked up three scalps apiece. They conceded 32 and
22, respectively.
