KKR made one change to their playing eleven – Mohnish Parmar made way for Jaydev Unadkat.
KXIP made three changes to their playing eleven – Shaun Marsh, Brett Lee
and Sreesanth made way for Mahela Jayawardene, Rusty Theron and Ramesh Powar.
On winning the toss, Sourav Ganguly, KKR’s skipper, chose to bat.
The first Powerplay of KKR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 53, without the loss of
a wicket.
KKR’s openers put on 50 off 5.2 overs (33 balls). KXIP had conceded
three extras at that point. While Ganguly’s contribution to the partnership was
34, Chris Gayle’s contribution to it was 14.
Ganguly, whose 31-ball innings included five boundaries and a six, eventually
scored 36. Forty-five balls into the match, he was caught by Ravi Bopara, who
broke the 56-run partnership.
KKR scored 100 off 12.3 overs (76 balls). KXIP had conceded four extras
at that point.
Gayle’s half-century – which included five boundaries and three sixes – came
off 30 balls.
The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 32 balls. While Gayle’s
contribution to the partnership was 39, Manoj Tiwary’s contribution to it was a
