Dhoni-led CSK advance, beating Hyderabad

CSK made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Justin Kemp and Sudeep Tyagi made way for Srikkanth Anirudha and Muttiah Muralitharan.

DC made three Cha(minda)nges to their playing eleven – Mitchell Marsh, Vaas, and Rahul (Shar)made way for Herschelle Gibbs, Ryan Harris and Rudra Pratap Singh.

On winning the toss, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of DC’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 39, and lost three wickets.

Hayden, who faced nine balls, scored eight. His runs came by way of boundaries. A dozen balls into the match, he was caught by Andrew Symonds. Ryan Harris broke the run-a-ball stand.

Murali Vijay, whose 10-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 15. Harris had a reason to be in seventh heaven – he trapped him leg before wicket, breaking the 13-run stand.

Suresh Raina, who faced four balls, scored a couple. Ten balls later, he was caught by Adam Gilchrist, DC’s skipper. Symonds broke the four-run stand.

DC scored 50 off eight overs (48 balls). The number of extras they had conceded at that point gave CSK no reason to be in seventh heaven.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 48 balls. While Subramaniam Badrinath’s contribution to the partnership was 16, Dhoni’s contribution to it was 30. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was four.

Dhoni, whose 32-ball innings included three boundaries, didn’t add to the aforementioned score. Fifty-one balls after Raina’s dismissal, he was caught by Rohit Sharma. Harmeet Singh broke the 52-run partnership.

Albie Morkel, who faced four balls, scoring as many. Nine balls later, he was caught by Symonds. Pragyan Ojha broke the 15-run stand.

DC scored 100 off 15.4 overs (94 balls). CSK had conceded nine extras at that point.

The sixth-wicket pair put on 21. Badrinath, whose 41-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, eventually scored 37. Twenty-one balls after Morkel’s dismissal, Gilchrist ran him out.

Anirudha, whose 15-ball innings included a boundary and a couple of sixes, scored 24. Eight balls later, he was caught by Gibbs. Harris broke the 20-run stand.

Ravichandran Ashwin, whose five-ball innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen. He was unbeaten, as was Shadab Jakati, who didn’t face a ball.

CSK eventually conceded 16 extras. DC scored 142 for the loss of seven wickets off 20 overs.

Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.

Rudra Pratap, who was wicketless, conceded 33.

Ojha, Harmeet and Symonds bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. They conceded 27, 22, and 18, respectively.

Harris, who conceded 29, picking up three scalps.

Tirumalasetti, who faced four balls, scored aS(u)many. His runs came by way of a boundary. Four balls later, he was caught by Raina. Bollinger broke the run-a-ball stand.

Rohit, who faced five balls, scored a couple. Nine balls later, he was caught by Muralitharan. Morkel broke the eight-run stand.

Gibbs, whose 26-ball innings included a boundary, scored 18. Fifteen balls later, Shadab Jakati broke the 17-run stand.

CSK scored 50 off 11.3 overs (69 balls). DC had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Mohnish Mishra, who faced five balls, scored a couple. Eight balls after Gibbs’ dismissal, he was stumped by Dhoni. Jakati broke the six-run stand.

Symonds, whose 22-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 23. Nineteen balls later, he was caught by Vijay. Ashwin broke the 28-run stand.

CSK scored 100 off 17 overs (102 balls). DC had conceded eight extras at that point. That was, eventually, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Harris, whose eight-ball innings included a boundary and a six, eventually scored 15. Fourteen balls after Symonds’ dismissal, he was caught by Vijay. Bollinger broke the 21-run stand.

The eighth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Bodapati Sumanth, whose 18-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 16. A couple of balls later, he was dismissed by Bollinger.

The ninth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Harmeet, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, he was trapped leg before wicket by Muralitharan.

Rudra Pratap, who faced three balls, didn’t open his account. He was unbeaten.

The last-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Ojha, who faced four balls, scored a run. Seven balls after Harmeet’s dismissal, he was caught by Bollinger off the bowling of Raina.

DC, who were dismissed for 104 off 19.2 overs, lost by 38 runs.

Raina, who faced a couple of dot balls, picked up a wicket.

Morkel, who bowled three overs, conceded 15. He picked up a wicket.

Muralitharan and Ashwin bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 16, the latter conceded 14.

Jakati, who bowled four overs, conceded 44. He picked up a couple of wickets.

Bollinger bowled four overs, including a maiden. He conceded 13, picking up four scalps.

The Chennai Super Kings advanced.
