Kumble shines; RCB crush Hyderabad

RCB made three changes to their playing eleven – Ross Taylor, Manish Pandey and Vinay Kumar made way for Cameron White, Balachandra Akhil and Nayan Doshi.

DC (Shar)made four changes to their playing eleven – Herschelle Gibbs, Tirumalasetti Suman, Bodapati Sumanth and Rudra Pratap Singh made way for Anirudh Singh, Dwayne Smith, Venugopal Rao and Rahul.

On winning the toss, Adam Gilchrist, DC’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of DC’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 27, and lost three wickets.

Gilchrist, who faced four balls, scored as many. His runs came by way of a boundary. Four balls into the match, he was caught by Jacques Kallis. Anil Kumble, RCB’s skipper and the player of the match, broke the four-run stand.

The second-wicket pair didn’t get off the (Ku)mark. Mohnish Mishra, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. Three balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Praveen.

The eighth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Rahul, who faced half-a-dozen balls, didn’t open his account. Nine balls later, he was dismissed by Kallis.

The ninth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Ryan Harris, who faced 10 balls, scored three. The next ball, he was trapped leg before wicket by the (Kumb)leggie.

Harmeet Singh, who didn’t face a ball, was unbeaten.

The last-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Pragyan Ojha, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t open his account. A couple of balls after Harris’ dismissal, he was caught by Kallis off the bowling of Kumble.

DC were bundled out for 82 off 18.3 overs.

Kallis, whose 32-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 19. Forty-four balls into the chase, he was caught by Rahul, who broke the 36-run stand.

RCB scored 50 off 9.5 overs (59 balls). DC had conceded three extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they had eventually conceded.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 39 balls. While Rahul Dravid’s contribution to the partnership was 20, Pietersen’s contribution to it was 29. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

Dravid, whose 30-ball innings included five boundaries, eventually scored 35. He was unbeaten, as was Pietersen, who didn’t add to the aforementioned score. His 21-ball innings included a boundary and a couple of sixes.

RCB, who scored 86 for the loss of a wicket off 13.5 overs, won by nine wickets with 37 balls to spare.

Harmeet, who bowled an over, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he was wicketless.
