Tendulkar returns; MI beat Bangalore

MI made half-a-dozen changes to their playing eleven – Aditya Tare, Rajagopal Sathish, Dwayne Bravo, Stuart Binny, Ryan McLaren and Ali Murtaza made way for Sachin Tendulkar (who was leading the team, and chose to bat on winning the toss), Abhishek Nayar, Kieron Pollard (the player of the match), Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan and Lasith Malinga.

RCB made one change to their playing eleven – Pankaj Singh made way for Praveen Kumar.

The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 54, and lost a couple of wickets.

Tendulkar, whose run-a-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored nine. Eleven balls into the match, he was caught by Ross Taylor. Dale Steyn broke the run-a-ball stand.

The second-wicket pair put on 18. Shikhar Dhawan, whose nine-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored a dozen. Eleven balls later, Virat Kohli ran him out.

MI scored 50 off 5.5 overs (35 balls). RCB had conceded eight extras at that point.

Nayar, whose 18-ball (Kev)innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 22. Twenty-eight balls after Dhawan’s dismissal, he was caught by Praveen. Pietersen broke the 39-run stand.

Jean-Paul Duminy, who faced four balls, scored three. Seven balls later, he was caught by Pietersen. Anil Kumble, RCB’s skipper, broke the nine-run stand.

MI scored 100 off 13.3 overs (81 balls). RCB had conceded nine extras at that point.

The fifth-wicket pair put on 50 off 42 balls. While Ambati Rayudu’s contribution to the partnership was 14, Saurabh Tiwary’s contribution to it was 34. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

Rayudu, whose 38-ball innings included four boundaries, eventually scored 40. Forty-nine balls after Duminy’s dismissal, he was caught by Jacques Kallis. Steyn broke the 67-run partnership.

MI scored 150 off 18 overs (110 balls). RCB had conceded a dozen extras at that point.

Tiwary’s half-century – which included three boundaries and four sixes – came off 31 balls.

He eventually scored 52, and was unbeaten, as was Pollard, who scored 33. His 13-ball innings included a boundary and three sixes.

RCB eventually conceded 13 extras. MI scored 184 for the loss of five wickets off 20 overs.

Kohli, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded 10.

Vinay Kumar and Kallis bowled a couple of wicketless overs each, conceding 25 apiece.

Praveen, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 29.

Kumble and Pietersen bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 30, the latter conceded 20.

Steyn, who bowled four overs, conceded 43. He picked up a couple of scalps.

The first Powerplay of RCB’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 44, and lost a wicket.

Kallis, whose nine-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 11. Sixteen balls into the chase, he was caught by Rayudu. Lasith Malinga broke the 24-run stand.

Pietersen, whose 14-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 19. Twenty-one balls later, he was stumped by Rayudu. Harbhajan broke the 23-run stand.

RCB scored 50 off 6.3 overs (39 balls). MI had conceded a couple extras at that point.

Uthappa, whose 13-ball (Rob)innings included a couple of boundaries and as many sixes, scored 26. Twenty balls after Pietersen’s dismissal, he was caught by Dhawan. Pollard broke the 34-run stand.

The fourth-wicket D(rav)id not get off the mark. Rahul, whose 22-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 23. The next ball, Nayar and Pollard ran him out.

Taylor, whose 30-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 31. He was unbeaten.

Although his innings included a boundary, Kohli had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored nine. Eleven balls after Dravid’s dismissal, he was caught by Rayudu. Pollard broke the 16-run stand.

RCB scored 100 off a dozen overs (73 balls). MI had conceded five extras at that point.

Manish Pandey, who faced nine balls, scored five. Thirteen balls after Kohli’s dismissal, he was caught by Duminy. Pollard broke the 11-run stand.

Praveen, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Eight balls later, Harbhajan broke the 10-run stand.

Vinay, who faced eight balls, scored as many. Three overs later, Malinga broke the 16-run stand.

Steyn, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, scored five. Nine balls later, Dilhara Fernando broke the 12-run stand.

Kumble, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. He was unbeaten.

MI eventually conceded 10 extras. RCB, who scored 149 for the loss of nine wickets off 20 overs, lost by 35 runs.

Each of the five bowlers bowled four overs apiece.

Zaheer Khan, who was wicketless, conceded 34.

Fernando, who conceded 28, picked up a wicket.

Harbhajan and Malinga picked up a couple of wickets apiece. While the former conceded 44, the latter conceded 24.

Pollard, who conceded 17, picked up three scalps.

The Mumbai Indians advanced.
