Mumbai trounced by Ganguly-led KKR

KKR made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Chris Gayle and Laxmi Ratan Shukla made way for David Hussey and Wriddhiman Saha.

MI made five changes to their playing eleven – Sachin Tendulkar, Kieron Pollard, Abhishek Nayar, Harbhajan Singh and Zaheer Khan made way for Shikhar Dhawan, Rajagopal Sathish, Dwayne Bravo (who was leading the team, and chose to bat on winning the toss), Stuart Binny and Ali Murtaza.

The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 42, and lost a couple of wickets.

Aditya Tare, who faced three balls, scored a run. Five balls into the match, he was caught by Murali Kartik, the player of the match. Shane Bond broke the two-run stand.

Dhawan, whose 11-ball innings included a boundary, scored 10. A dozen balls later, he was caught by Saha. Bond broke the run-a-ball stand.

MI scored 50 off 7.2 overs (44 balls). KKR had conceded an extra at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 35 balls. While Saurabh Tiwary’s contribution to the partnership was 35, Jean-Paul Duminy’s contribution to it was 14. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

Duminy, whose 27-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, eventually scored 19. Sixty balls after Dhawan’s dismissal, Jaydev Unadkat broke the 63-run partnership.

The fourth-wicket pair failed to get off the mark. Saurabh, whose 37-ball innings included four boundaries and a six, eventually scored 46. A couple of balls later, he was caught by Brendon McCullum off the bowling of Kartik.

Bravo, who faced nine balls, scored five. Fifteen balls later, he was stumped by Saha. Kartik broke the 12-run stand.

MI scored 100 off 16.3 balls (99 balls). KKR had conceded three extras at that point.

Sathish, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, scored 11. Thirteen balls after Bravo’s dismissal, he was caught by Kartik. Manoj Tiwary broke the 22-run stand.

Binny, whose five-ball innings included a boundary, scored eight. Eight balls later, he was caught by Sourav Ganguly, KKR’s skipper. Ashok Dinda broke the 15-run stand.

The eighth-wicket pair had no reason to be in seventh heaven. Ambati Rayudu, whose 15-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, scored 27. Five balls later, Dinda ran him out.

Ryan McLaren, who faced a couple of balls, failed to get off the mark. He was unbeaten.

KKR eventually conceded half-a-dozen extras. MI scored 133 for the loss of eight wickets off 20 overs.

Ganguly, who bowled an over, conceded 13. He was wicketless, as was Hussey, who bowled a couple of overs, conceding 14.

Manoj, who bowled an over, conceded 11. He picked up a wicket, as did Unadkat and Dinda, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former conceded 27, the latter conceded 20.

Bond and Kartik bowled four overs each, picking up a couple of scalps apiece. While the former conceded 24, the latter conceded 20.  

The first Powerplay of KKR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 44, without the loss of a wicket.

KKR’s openers put on 50 off 6.3 overs (39 balls). MI had conceded three extras at that point. While Ganguly’s contribution to the partnership was 24, McCullum’s contribution to it was 23. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was three.

Ganguly, whose 36-ball innings included four boundaries and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 42. Eighty-four balls into the chase, he was caught by Bravo. Sathish broke the 97-run partnership.

KKR scored 100 off 14 overs (85 balls). MI had conceded 10 extras at that point.

McCullum’s half-century – which included seven boundaries – came off 52 balls.

He eventually scored 57 off 56 balls, which included eight boundaries. He was unbeaten, as was Hussey, who scored 20. His 14-ball innings included a boundary and a six.

MI eventually conceded 16 extras. KKR, who scored 135 for the loss of a wicket off 17.3 overs, won by nine wickets with 15 balls to spare.

Binny, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded nine.

Bravo had no reason to be in seventh heaven - he bowled a couple of wicketless overs.

Duminy, who bowled 2.3 wicketless overs, conceded 22.

Dilhara Fernando and McLaren bowled three wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 27, the latter conceded 26.

Murtaza, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 27.

Sathish, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 11. He picked up the only wicket to fall.
