Gilchrist-led DC win; Delhi disappointed

DD made no changes to their playing eleven.

DC made a couple of Cha(minda)nges to their playing eleven – Rudra Pratap Singh and Ryan Harris made way for Vaas and Harmeet Singh.

On winning the toss, Adam Gilchrist, DC’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of DC’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 38, and lost a couple of wickets.

Gilchrist, whose nine-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 10. Ten balls into the match, he was caught by Gautam Gambhir, DD’s skipper. Ashish Nehra broke the 11-run stand.

Tirumalasetti Suman, whose five-ball innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen. Fifteen balls later, Umesh Yadav broke the 21-run stand.

Rohit Sharma, whose nine-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 11. Fourteen balls later, he was caught by Dinesh Karthik. Yadav broke the 15-run stand.

DC scored 50 off 6.5 overs (41 balls). DD had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 19. Mohnish Mishra, whose 19-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 25. Fifteen balls after Rohit’s dismissal, Mithun Manhas ran him out.

DC scored 100 off 12.1 overs (73 balls). DD had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Andrew Symonds, the player of the match, scored 50 off 26 balls, which included three boundaries and five sixes.  

The fifth-wicket pair put on 50 off 32 balls. While Symonds’ contribution to the partnership was 41, Mitchell Marsh’s contribution to it was nine. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

Symonds, who faced 30 balls, eventually scored 54. Thirty-three balls after Mohnish’s dismissal, he was caught by Manhas. Amit Mishra broke the 50-run partnership.

Marsh, who faced 19 balls, eventually scored nine. Nine balls later, he was caught by Manhas. Nehra broke the five-run stand.

Bodapati Sumanth, who faced 12 balls, had a reason t0 be in seventh heaven – he was unbeaten.

Vaas, who faced eight balls, scored just three. A couple of overs later, he was caught by Nehra. Needless to say, Paul Collingwood was in seventh heaven.

Rahul Sharma scored 14 off eight balls, which included a couple of boundaries. He was unbeaten.

DD eventually conceded three extras. DC scored 145 for the loss of seven wickets off 20 overs.

Tillakaratne Dilshan, who bowled an over, conceded 14. He was unbeaten, as was Nannes, who bowled four overs, conceding 22.

Collingwood, who bowled three overs, conceded 22. He picked up a wicket, as did Amit, who bowled four overs, conceding 28.

Nehra and Yadav bowled four overs each, picking up a couple of scalps apiece. While the former conceded 32, the latter conceded 24.

David Warner, whose four-ball innings included a boundary, scored five. Eight balls into the chase, he was caught by Rohit. Marsh broke the nine-run stand.

Virender Sehwag, whose six-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored eight. Eight balls later, he was caught by Rohit. Vaas broke the 10-run stand.

Dilshan, whose run-a-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 11. Half-a-dozen balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Harmeet Singh, who broke the run-a-ball stand.

Gambhir, who faced nine balls, scored four. Sixteen balls later, he was caught by Rohit. Pragyan broke the 14-run stand.

DD scored 50 off eight overs (48 balls). DC hadn’t conceded any extras at that point.

The fifth-wicket pair put on 29. Manhas, whose 22-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 23. Thirty-three balls after Gambhir’s dismissal, Marsh and Rahul ran him out.

Karthik, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. (Oj)Half-a-dozen balls later, the left-arm spinner broke the four-run stand.

Amit, who faced nine balls, scored just four. Fourteen balls later, Harmeet broke the run-a-ball stand.  

DD scored 100 off 16.2 overs (98 balls). DC had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Collingwood’s half-century – which included a boundary and three sixes – came off 38 balls.

He eventually scored 51 off 42 balls, and was unbeaten, as was Nehra, who scored 22. His 16-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six.

DC eventually conceded five extras. DD, who scored 134 for the loss of seven wickets, lost by 11 runs.

Symonds, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded eight. He was wicketless, as was Rahul, who bowled four overs, conceding 29.

Marsh, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 19. He picked up a wicket, as did Vaas, who bowled four overs, conceding 19.

Harmeet and Ojha bowled four overs each, picking up a couple of scalps apiece. While the former conceded 41, the latter conceded 16.

While DC advanced to the playoffs, DD were eliminated.
