CSK made a couple of changes to their playing (Micha)eleven – Srikkanth Anirudha and Muttiah Muralitharan made way for Hussey and Lakshmipathy Balaji.
DD made four changes to their playing eleven – A B de Villiers, Andrew
McDonald, Pradeep Sangwan and Sarabjit Ladda made way for Tillakaratne Dilshan,
Mithun Manhas, Dirk Nannes and Umesh Yadav.
On winning the toss, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s skipper, chose to bat.
The first Powerplay of CSK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 39, and lost three wickets.
Matthew Hayden, who faced five balls, scored a run. Nine balls later, he
was caught by Paul Collingwood. Ashish Nehra broke the run-a-ball stand.
Dhoni, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t get off the mark. Four balls
later, he was caught by Manhas. Nannes broke the four-run stand.
Murali Vijay, whose 11-ball innings included three boundaries, scored
17. Eight balls later, he was caught by Dinesh Karthik. Nehra broke the 10-run
stand.
CSK scored 50 off 7.3 overs (45 balls). DD had conceded five extras at
that point.
Suresh Raina, whose 19-ball innings included a couple of boundaries,
scored 15. Twenty-seven balls after Vijay’s dismissal, he was caught by Umesh
Yadav. Dilshan broke the 29-run stand.
Hussey, whose 18-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored
15. Half-a-dozen balls later, he was caught by Dilshan. Virender Sehwag broke
the one-run stand.
Albie Morkel, who faced four balls, scored a run. Five balls later, he
was caught by Collingwood. Sehwag broke the two-run stand.
The seventh-wicket pair put on 17. Ashwin, who faced 13 balls, scored
half-a-dozen. Twenty-five balls later, Amit Mishra (Ravichand)ran him out.
Balaji, who faced eight balls, scored three. A dozen balls later, he was
trapped leg before wicket by Mishra, who broke the five-run stand.
CSK scored 100 off 19 overs (116 balls). DD had conceded eight extras at
that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually
conceded.
The 19th over of CSK’s innings – which was bowled by Nannes –
was called a seven-ball over by Indian umpire Sanjay Hazare.
Subramaniam Badrinath, whose 29-ball innings included a couple of boundaries,
scored 30. Twenty-three balls after Balaji’s dismissal, he was caught by David
Warner. Nehra broke the 35-run stand.
Doug Bollinger, whose 14-ball innings included a boundary and a six,
scored 16. He was unbeaten.
Yadav, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded 11.
Nannes, who bowled three overs, conceded 25. He picked up a wicket, as did
Dilshan and Mishra, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former conceded 19,
the latter conceded 13.
Sehwag, who bowled four overs, conceded 18. He picked up a couple of
wickets.
Nehra, who bowled four overs, conceded 26. He picked up three scalps.

The fifth-wicket pair put on 50 off 54 balls. While the contribution of Gautam
Gambhir, DD’s skipper, to the partnership was 22, Manhas’ contribution to it
was 23. Extras’ contribution to the partnership gave CSK no reason to be in seventh
heaven.

Gambhir’s half-century – which included five boundaries – came off 51
balls.
Gambhir, whose 56-ball innings included five boundaries, eventually
scored 57. He was unbeaten, as was Manhas, who scored 25. His 32-ball innings
included a couple of boundaries.
DD, who scored 113 for the loss of four wickets off 18.4 overs, won by
half-a-dozen wickets off eight balls to spare.
Balaji, who bowled two wicketless overs, conceded 16.
Morkel, who bowled 2.4 wicketless overs, conceded 16.
Raina, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 15.
Jakati, who bowled three overs, conceded 14. He picked up a wicket, as
did Ashwin, who bowled four overs, conceding 24.
Bollinger, who bowled four overs, conceded 24. He picked up two scalps.
