Ganguly shines; KKR beat Hyderabad

KKR made four changes to their playing eleven – Mandeep Singh, Charl Langeveldt and Ishant (Shar)made way for Cheteshwar Pujara, Shane Bond and Mohnish Parmar.

DC made one change to their playing eleven – Rudra Pratap Singh made way for Harmeet Singh.

On winning the toss, Sourav Ganguly, KKR’s skipper and the player of the match, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of KKR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 46, and lost a couple of wickets.

Chris Gayle had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored just four. His runs came by way of a boundary. Fourteen balls into the match, he was caught by Kemar Roach. Andrew Symonds broke the 15-run stand.

Pujara, whose 13-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 17. Twenty-two balls later, he was caught by Pragyan Ojha. Symonds broke the 31-run stand.

KKR scored 50 off 6.4 overs (40 balls). The number of extras they had conceded at that point gave DC no reason to be in seventh heaven.

Manoj Tiwary had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored five. Fifteen balls after Pujara’s dismissal, Ojha broke the 22-run stand.

Ganguly’s half-century – which included seven boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 39 balls.

KKR scored 100 off 13.1 overs (79 balls). DC had conceded nine extras at that point.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 41 balls. While Ganguly’s contribution to the partnership was 35, David Hussey’s contribution to it was 17. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

Ganguly, whose 54-ball innings included nine boundaries and five sixes, eventually scored 88. Fifty-one balls after Tiwary’s dismissal, he was caught by Rohit Sharma. Ojha broke the 78-run stand.

KKR scored 150 off 17.1 overs (103 balls). DC had conceded 13 extras at that point.

Angelo Mathews, who faced four balls, scored as many. Seven balls after Ganguly’s dismissal, he was caught by Herschelle Gibbs. Jaskaran Singh broke the 13-run stand.

David Hussey, whose 27-ball innings included a boundary and a couple of sixes, scored 31. A couple of balls later, he was caught by Gibbs. Jaskaran broke the four-run stand.

Wriddhiman Saha, whose four-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, was unbea‘ten’.

Ajit Agarkar, whose five-ball innings included a boundary, scored eight. He was unbeaten.

DC eventually conceded 14 extras. KKR scored 181 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 20 overs.

Venugopal Rao bowled a wicketless over, conceding 10.

Harmeet and Rohit bowled two wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 21, the latter conceded 16.

Roach bowled four wicketless overs, conceding 48.

Jaskaran bowled three overs, conceding 18. He picked up a couple of scalps, as did Ojha and Symonds, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former conceded 38, the latter conceded 26.

The first Powerplay of DC’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 59, and lost a wicket.

Adam Gilchrist, DC’s skipper, scored nine. His five-ball innings included a couple of boundaries. Sixteen balls into the chase, he was caught by Pujara. Agarkar broke the 31-run stand.

DC scored 50 off 5.2 overs (32 balls). KKR had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Mohnish Mishra, whose 16-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries, scored 29. Thirty-five balls after Gilchrist’s dismissal, he was caught by Tiwary. Mathews broke the 46-run stand.

DC scored 100 off 12.2 overs (74 balls). KKR had conceded five extras at that point.

Gibbs’ half-century – which included five boundaries and a six – came off 43 balls.

He eventually faced 45 balls, failing to add to the aforementioned score. Thirty-five balls after Mishra’s dismissal, he was caught by Hussey. Shane Bond broke the 44-run stand.

Rohit, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored a couple. Murali Kartik had a reason to be in seventh heaven – he broke the four-run stand.

DC scored 150 off 19.2 overs (116 balls). The number of extras they had conceded at that point gave KKR no reason to be in seventh heaven. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Symonds, whose 37-ball innings included five boundaries, scored 45. Twenty-five balls after Rohit’s dismissal, he was caught by Kartik. Gayle broke the 26-run stand.

Tirumalasetti Suman, whose 11-ball innings included a couple of sixes, scored 15. He was unbeaten, as was Rao, who didn’t face a ball.

DC, who scored 157 for the loss of five wickets off 20 overs, lost by 24 runs.

Parmar bowled three wicketless overs, conceding 33.

Gayle bowled an over, conceding nine. He picked up a wicket, as did Agarkar, Kartik, Bond and Mathews, who bowled four overs apiece. They conceded 31, 29, 28, and 25, respectively.
