CSK made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Arun Karthik and Joginder (Shar)made way for Chandrasekar Ganapathy and Manpreet Gony.
RCB made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Eoin Morgan and Mark
Boucher made way for Kevin Pietersen and Cameron White.
On winning the toss, Anil Kumble, RCB’s skipper, chose to bat.
The first Powerplay of RCB’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 52, and lost a wicket.
Although his innings included a boundary, Manish Pandey had no reason to
be in seventh heaven – he scored five. Fifteen overs into the match, he was
caught by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s skipper. Thilan Thushara broke the 12-run
stand.
RCB scored 50 off 5.5 overs (35 balls). CSK had conceded a couple of extras
at that point.
Uthappa, whose 13-ball (Rob)innings included a boundary and a couple of
sixes, scored 21. Twenty-four balls after Pandey’s dismissal, he was caught by
Gony. Shadab Jakati broke the 42-run stand.
RCB scored 100 off 12.5 overs (77 balls). CSK had conceded four extras
at that point.
The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 39 balls. While the contributions of
both Jacques Kallis and Virat Kohli to the partnership were 25 apiece, extras didn’t
contribute to it.
Kohli, whose 24-ball innings included three boundaries and a six,
eventually scored 34. Fifty-two balls after Uthappa’s dismissal, he was caught
by Murali Vijay, the player of the match. Jakati broke the 63-run partnership.
Kallis’ half-century – which included seven boundaries – came off 41
balls.
The fourth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Kallis, who faced 49
balls, eventually conceded 52. A couple of balls after Kohli’s dismissal,
Suresh Raina and Jakati ran him out.
RCB scored 150 off 19 overs (114 balls). CSK had conceded five extras at
that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually
conceded.
Both Pietersen’s and White’s innings included a couple of boundaries and
a six, and were unbeaten. While the former, who faced 14 balls, scored 23, the
latter, who faced 13 balls, scored 21.
RCB scored 161 for the loss of four wickets off 20 overs.
Ganapathy bowled a wicketless over, conceding 13.
Gony bowled three wicketless overs, conceding 39.
Albie Morkel and Muttiah Muralitharan bowled four wicketless overs
apiece. While the former conceded 40, the latter conceded 21.
Thushara bowled four overs, conceding 30. He picked up a wicket.
Jakati bowled four overs, including a maiden. He conceded 17, picking up
a couple of scalps.
The first Powerplay of CSK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 56, without the loss of
a wicket.
CSK’s openers put on 50 off 5.3 overs (33 balls). RCB had conceded a
couple of extras at that point. While Vijay’s contribution to the partnership
was 43, Matthew Hayden’s contribution to it was nine.
Hayden, whose 14-ball innings included a six, eventually scored a dozen.
Forty-one balls into the chase, he was stumped. Kumble broke the 65-run (Uthap)partnership.
Vijay’s half-century – which included three boundaries and as many sixes
– came off 29 balls.
CSK scored 100 off 10.3 overs (63 balls). RCB had conceded a couple of extras
at that point.
Vijay, whose 39-ball innings included four boundaries and half-a-dozen sixes,
eventually scored 78. Twenty-four balls later, he was caught by Pandey.
Pietersen broke the 43-run stand.
Raina, whose 34-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, scored
40. He was unbeaten.
The man from Ranchi, whose (Dho)nineteen-ball innings included a boundary,
scored 14. Thirty-four balls after Vijay’s dismissal, he was caught by Rahul
Dravid. Dale Steyn broke the run-a-ball stand.
Morkel, who faced three balls, scored a run. Half-a-dozen balls later, Kallis
broke the five-run stand.
CSK scored 150 off 18.4 overs (112 balls). RCB had conceded eight extras
at that point.
The 19th over of CSK’s innings – bowled by Vinay Kumar – was a
five-ball over, called by South African umpire Rudi Koertzen.
Although his six-ball innings included a boundary, Subramaniam Badrinath
had no reason to be in seventh heaven – eight balls after Morkel’s dismissal,
he was caught by Uthappa. Vinay broke the nine-run stand.
Ganapathy, who didn’t face a ball, was unbeaten.
RCB eventually conceded 10 extras. CSK, who scored 162 for the loss of
five wickets off 19 overs, won by five wickets with an over to spare.
Praveen Kumar bowled three wicketless overs, conceding 42.
Pietersen bowled two overs, conceding 26. He picked up a wicket.
Vinay and Kallis bowled three overs each, picking up a wicket apiece.
While the former conceded 31, the latter conceded 21.
Steyn and Kumble bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece.
While the former conceded 20, the latter conceded 16.
