CSK made three changes to their playing (Mork)eleven – Albie, Srikkanth Anirudha and Muttiah Muralitharan made way for Michael Hussey, Ravichandran Ashwin and Thilan Thushara.
MI made one change to their playing eleven – Zaheer Khan made way for Abu
Nechim.
On winning the toss, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s skipper, chose to bat.
The first Powerplay of CSK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 42, and lost a wicket.
Murali Vijay, whose 17-ball innings included a couple of boundaries,
scored 14. Four overs into the match, Harbhajan Singh broke the 27-run stand.
CSK scored 50 off 6.5 overs (41 balls). MI had conceded a dozen extras
at that point.
Suresh Raina, whose 18-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and
a six, scored 23. Twenty-six balls after Vijay’s dismissal, he was caught by
Shikhar Dhawan. Dwayne Br(av)oke the 42-run stand.
CSK scored 100 off 11.4 overs (70 balls). MI had conceded 15 extras at
that point.
The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 29 balls. While Matthew Hayden’s
contribution to the partnership was 17, Dhoni’s contribution to it was 31.
Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.
Dhoni, whose 18-ball innings included four boundaries, eventually scored
31. Thirty balls after Raina’s dismissal, he was caught by Kieron Pollard, who
broke the 50-run partnership.
The fourth-wicket pair put didn’t get off the mark. Hayden, whose
31-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, eventually scored
35. The next ball, he was caught by Rajagopal Sathish off the bowling of
Pollard.
CSK scored 150 off 19 overs (115 balls). MI had conceded 17 extras at

Hussey, who faced 15 balls, scored 14. He was unbeaten, as was
Subramaniam Badrinath, who scored 30. His 22-ball innings included four
boundaries.
MI eventually conceded 18 extras. CSK scored 165 for the loss of four

Sathish, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded five.
Nechim, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded 26.
Ryan McLaren, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 25.

Sachin Tendulkar, MI’s skipper, had scored 38, when he retired hurt. They
had scored 62 for the loss of a wicket at that point. When he resumed his innings,
they had scored 89, and lost seven wickets.
Ambati Rayudu, who faced four balls, scored three. Twenty-two balls
after Dhawan’s dismissal, he was stumped by Dhoni. Raina broke the 20-run
stand.
Bravo, who faced three balls, scored a couple. Four balls later, he was
caught by Thushara. Tyagi broke the three-run stand.
Saurabh Tiwary, whose 18-ball innings included a boundary, scored 14.
Nine balls later, he was caught by Hayden. Shadab Jakati broke the 13-run
stand.
Pollard, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored five. An over later, he
was caught by Vijay. Ashwin broke the four-run stand.
The sixth-wicket pair put on three. Sathish, who faced five balls,
scored four. Four balls later, Badrinath and Dhoni ran him out.
The seventh-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. McLaren, who faced
three balls, scored a run. He was trapped leg be‘four’ wicket by Ashwin.
MI scored 100 off 15.4 overs (95 balls). CSK had conceded eight extras
at that point.
Tendulkar, whose 35-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries,
eventually scored 45. Thirteen balls after McLaren’s dismissal, he was caught
by Vijay. Thushara broke the 16-run stand.
Harbhajan, whose 23-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and
three sixes, scored 33. Twenty-one balls later, Doug Bollinger broke the 36-run
stand.
Although he was unbeaten, Nechim, who scored four, had no reason to be
in seventh heaven.
CSK eventually conceded 14 extras. MI, who scored 141 for the loss of
nine wickets off 20 overs, lost by 24 runs.
Raina bowled 2.3 overs, conceding 12. He picked up a wicket.
Tyagi bowled three overs, conceding 20. He picked up a wicket.
Bollinger and Jakati bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece.
While the former conceded 39, the latter conceded 27.
Thushara bowled 2.3 overs, conceding 16. He picked up a couple of
scalps, as did Ashwin, who bowled four overs, conceding 22.
