Warne-led RR beat Punjab comfortably

RR made changes to their playing (Mork)eleven – Morne made way for Adam Voges.

KXIP made one change to their playing eleven – Shalabh Srivastava made way for Sreesanth.

On winning the toss, Kumar Sangakkara, KXIP’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 52, and lost a wicket.

Manvinder Bisla, whose 14-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 20. Twenty-one balls into the match, he was caught by Faiz Fazal. Shane Watson broke the 29-run stand.

KXIP scored 50 off 5.4 overs (34 balls). RR had conceded five extras at that point.

Although his innings included a boundary, Sangakkara had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored nine. Sixteen balls after Bisla’s dismissal, he was caught by Yusuf Pathan. Siddharth Trivedi broke the 23-run stand.

KXIP scored 100 off 11 overs (66 balls). The number of extras they had conceded at that point gave no reason to be in seventh heaven.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 29 balls. While Mahela Jayawardene’s contribution to the partnership was 21, Yuvraj Singh’s contribution to it was 28. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

Yuvraj, whose 16-ball innings included a boundary and three sixes, failed to add to the aforementioned score. Thirty-two balls later, Aditya Dole broke the 56-run partnership.

Irfan Pathan, whose 23-ball innings included a boundary, scored 24. He was unbeaten.

Jayawardene, whose 33-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries and a six, eventually scored 44. A couple of balls after Yuvraj’s dismissal, he was caught by Shane Warne, RR’s skipper. Dole broke the one-run stand.

The fifth-wicket pair put on 19. Ravi Bopara, who faced 11 balls, scored eight. Twenty-one balls (Jhunjhunwa)later, Abhishek, Fazal and Naman Ojha ran him out.

Piyush, who faced 15 balls, scored 10. Twenty-four balls (Chaw)later, he was caught by Jhunjhunwala. Trivedi broke the 21-run stand.

KXIP scored 150 off 19.4 overs (118 balls). RR had conceded nine extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Bipul Sharma, who faced a ball, scored a run. He was unbeaten.

KXIP scored 153 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 20 overs.

Fazal, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded half-a-dozen.

Warne, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 42.

Yusuf, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 26.

Watson, who bowled four overs, conceded 19. He picked up a wicket.

Dole and Trivedi bowled four overs each, picking up a couple of scalps apiece. While the former conceded 36, the latter conceded 22.

The first Powerplay of RR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 70, without the loss of a wicket.

RR’s openers scored 50 off 3.5 overs (25 balls). KXIP had conceded four extras at that point. While the contribution of Michael Lumb, the player of the match, to the partnership was 41, his partner’s contribution to it was (Oj)half-a-dozen.

Lumb’s half-century – which included 10 boundaries and a six – off 28 balls.

RR’s openers scored 100 off 8.3 overs (53 balls). KXIP had conceded five extras at that point. While Lumb’s contribution to the partnership was 75, Ojha’s contribution to it was 20.

Lumb, whose 43-ball innings included 16 boundaries and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 83. Fifty-nine balls into the chase, he was caught by Chawla. Bopara broke the 109-run partnership.

RR scored 150 off 14.4 overs (90 balls). KXIP had conceded eight extras at that point.

Ojha, whose 37-ball innings included four boundaries and a six, eventually scored 44. He was unbeaten, as was Yusuf, who scored 21. His 13-ball innings included a couple of sixes.

KXIP eventually conceded nine extras. RR, who scored 157 for the loss of a wicket off 15 overs, won by nine wickets with five overs to spare.

Irfan and Sharma bowled a wicketless over apiece. While the former conceded 17, the latter conceded a dozen.

Rusty Theron and Ramesh Powar bowled a couple of wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 23, the latter conceded 18.

Sreesanth, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 40.

Chawla, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 27.

Bopara, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 18. He picked up the only wicket to fall.
