Sangakkara shines; KXIP beat Mumbai

KXIP (Shar)made five changes to their playinG(o)eleven – Manvinder Bisla, Ravi Bopara, Bipul, Rusty Theron and Sreesanth made way for Adrian Barath, Reetinder Singh Sodhi, Karan, Brett Lee and Love Ablish.

MI made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Dwayne Bravo and Abu Nechim made way for Jean-Paul Duminy and Zaheer Khan.

On winning the toss, Sachin Tendulkar, MI’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 51, and lost a couple of wickets.

Shikhar Dhawan, who faced four balls, scored a couple. Irfan Pathan had a reason to be in seventh heaven – he broke the run-a-ball stand.

Ambati Rayudu, whose 18-ball innings included seven boundaries, scored 33. Twenty-nine balls (Chaw)later, Piyush broke the 44-run stand.

MI scored 50 off 5.4 overs (34 balls). KXIP hadn’t conceded any extras at that point.

Saurabh Tiwary, who faced five balls, scored four. Nine balls after Rayudu’s dismissal, he was stumped by Kumar Sangakkara, KXIP’s skipper and the player of the match. Chawla broke the eight-run stand.

Tendulkar, whose 25-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 29. Thirteen balls later, Chawla broke the 11-run stand.

Rajagopal Sathish, whose 17-ball innings included a boundary, scored 20. Twenty-four balls later, he was caught by Sangakkara. Pathan broke the 26-run stand.

MI scored 100 off 14.3 overs (87 balls). KXIP had conceded an extra at that point.

Kieron Pollard, whose 14-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 18. Pathan broke the 38-run stand.

MI scored 150 off 19 overs (114 balls). KXIP had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Although his innings included a boundary, Harbhajan Singh had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored nine. Ten balls after Pollard’s dismissal, he was caught by Sangakkara. Ablish broke the 18-run stand.

Ryan McLaren, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. A couple of balls later, Ablish broke the run-a-ball stand.

The ninth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Duminy, whose 28-ball innings included a boundary and a couple of sixes, scored 35. The next ball, Sangakkara ran him out.

Khan, who didn’t face a ball, was unbeaten.

MI eventually conceded four extras. DC scored 154 for the loss of nine wickets off 20 overs.

Yuvraj Singh, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 15. He was wicketless, as were Lee and Ramesh Powar, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former conceded 38, the latter conceded 28.

Ablish, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 17. He picked up a couple of wickets.

Pathan and the leggie bowled four overs each, picking up three scalps apiece. While the former conceded 29, the (Chaw)latter conceded 24.

The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 56, and lost a wicket.

Mahela Jayawardene, whose 18-ball innings included seven boundaries, scored (Lasi)thirty-one. Twenty-seven balls into the chase, he was caught by Tiwary. Malinga broke the 41-run stand.

KXIP scored 50 off 5.2 overs (32 balls). MI had conceded an extra at that point.

Barath, whose 27-ball innings included four boundaries and a six, scored 33. Thirty-four balls after Jayawardene’s dismissal, he was trapped leg before wicket by Duminy, who broke the 46-run stand.

KXIP scored 100 off 12.2 overs (74 balls). MI had conceded three extras at that point.

Yuvraj Singh, whose 21-ball innings included a boundary, scored 15. Thirty-eight balls after Barath’s dismissal, he was caught by Duminy. Pollard broke the run-a-ball stand.

Sangakkara’s half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries and a six – came off 39 balls.

Sangakkara, whose 42-ball innings included half-a-dozen boundaries and a six, eventually scored 56. A dozen balls after Yuvraj’s dismissal, he was caught by Dhawan. Malinga broke the 22-run stand.

KXIP scored 150 off 18.5 overs (113 balls). MI had conceded four extras at that point. That was, eventually, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Pathan, whose six-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 15. He was unbeaten, as was Sodhi, who faced a couple of balls, scoring four. His runs came by way of a boundary.

KXIP, who scored 158 for the loss of four wickets off 19.2 overs, won by half-a-dozen wickets with four balls to spare.

Sathish and McLaren bowled a couple of wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 14, the latter conceded 13.

Khan bowled 3.2 wicketless overs, conceding 36.

Harbhajan bowled four wicketless overs, conceding 34.

Pollard bowled an over, conceding nine. He picked up a wicket, as did Duminy, who bowled three overs, conceding 15.

Malinga bowled four overs, conceding 36. He picked up a couple of scalps.
