Jayawardene-led KTK beat Delhi comfortably

DD made no changes to their playing eleven.

KTK made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Balachandra Akhil and Ramesh Powar made way for Raiphi Gomez and Prasanth Parameswaran, the player of the match.

On winning the toss, Mahela Jayawardene, KTK’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of DD’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 42, and lost a couple of wickets.

Virender Sehwag, DD’s skipper, scored 15 off nine balls, which included a couple of boundaries and a six. Fifteen balls into the match, he was caught by Parthiv Patel. Parameswaran broke the 21-run stand.

David Warner, whose 15-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 13. Twenty balls later, he was caught by Vinay Kumar. Sreesanth broke the 21-run stand.

Naman Ojha, whose 14-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 13. Three balls later, he was caught by Patel. Rudra Pratap Singh broke the one-run stand.

DD scored 50 off 7.5 overs (48 balls). KTK had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 46 balls. While Yogesh Nagar’s contribution to the partnership was 17, Venugopal Rao’s contribution to it was 29. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was four.

Nagar, whose 23-ball innings included a boundary, eventually scored 18. Fifty-two balls after Ojha’s dismissal, he was caught by Rudra Pratap. Vinay broke the 54-run partnership.

DD scored 100 off 15.2 overs (93 balls). The number of extras they had conceded at that point gave KTK no reason to be in seventh heaven. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Rao, whose 36-ball innings included five boundaries, eventually scored 40. Fourteen balls after Nagar’s dismissal, he was caught by Rudra Pratap. Parameswaran broke the 19-run stand.

Travis Birt, whose 15-ball innings included five boundaries, scored 27. (Pat)Eleven balls later, he was caught behind. Vinay Kumar broke the 19-run stand.

Irfan Pathan, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored five. He was unbeaten, as was Roelof van der Merwe, who faced three boundaries, scoring a couple.

KTK scored 140 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 20 overs.

Gomez and Ravindra Jadeja bowled a couple of wicketless overs each, conceding 16 apiece.

Rudra Pratap and Sreesanth bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 28, the latter conceded 24.

Parameswaran and Vinay bowled four overs each, picking up a couple of scalps apiece. While the former conceded 29, the latter conceded 25.

The first Powerplay of KTK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 67, and lost a wicket.

KTK’s openers put on 50 off four overs (25 balls). DD had conceded 10 extras at that point. While Michael Klinger’s contribution to the partnership was half-a-dozen, Brendon McCullum’s contribution to it was 37.

McCullum, whose 19-ball innings included five boundaries and a couple of sixes, didn’t add to the aforementioned score. Thirty-two balls into the chase, he was caught by Umesh Yadav. Morne Morkel broke the 61-run partnership.

Klinger, whose 20-ball innings included three boundaries, eventually scored 18. A dozen balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by van der Merwe, who broke the 10-run stand.

The third-wicket pair put on 18. Jayawardene, whose 10-ball innings included a boundary, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – 17 balls later, Nagar ran him out.

KTK scored 100 off 11.1 overs (69 balls). DD had conceded 17 extras at that point.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 30 balls. While Patel’s contribution to the partnership was 26, Brad Hodge’s contribution to it was 24. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

Patel, whose 31-ball innings included five boundaries, eventually scored 37. He was unbeaten, as was Hodge, who eventually scored 24. His 13-ball innings included three boundaries and a six.

DD eventually conceded 18 extras. KTK, who scored 141 for the loss of three wickets off 15 overs, won by seven wickets with five overs to spare.

Yadav and Nagar bowled a wicketless over apiece. While the former conceded 23, the latter conceded 15.

Ajit Agarkar, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 18.

Pathan, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 38.
