Punjab beaten by Tendulkar-led MI

MI made one changes to their playing eleven – Rajagopal Sathish made way for Tirumalasetti Suman.

KXIP made no changes to their playing eleven.

On winning the toss, Adam Gilchrist, KXIP’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 35, and lost a wicket.

Davy Jacobs, whose run-a-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 10. Fifteen balls into the (Shar)match, Bipul broke the 14-run stand.

MI scored 50 off 8.4 overs (52 balls). KXIP had conceded four extras at that point.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 43 balls. While the contribution of Sachin Tendulkar, MI’s skipper, to the partnership was 26, Ambati Rayudu’s contribution to it was 23. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

MI scored 100 off 13.3 overs (81 balls). KXIP had conceded four extras at that point.

While Rayudu’s half-century – which included eight boundaries and a six – came off 35 balls, Tendulkar’s half-century – which included three boundaries and a six – came off 44 balls.

Rayudu eventually scored 51 off 37 balls. Seventy-two balls after Jacobs’ dismissal, he was caught by Dinesh Karthik. Piyush Chawla broke the 95-run partnership.

Tendulkar eventually scored 51 off 45 balls. Eleven balls later, he was caught by Abhishek Nayar. Ryan Harris broke the 20-run stand.

Kieron Pollard, the player of the match, scored 20. His 11-ball innings included a boundary and a couple of sixes. Ten balls (Chaw)later, he was caught by Paul Valthaty. The leggie broke the 15-run stand.  

MI scored 150 off 19.1 overs (115 balls). KXIP had conceded five extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Rohit Sharma, whose 11-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 18. A dozen balls after Pollard’s dismissal, he was caught by David Hussey. Harris broke the 14-run stand.

Andrew Symonds, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored four. He was unbeaten, as was Suman, who didn’t face a ball.

MI scored 159 for the loss of five wickets off 20 overs.

Valthaty, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded 10.

Praveen Kumar, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 28.

Bhargav Bhatt, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 26.

Bipul, who bowled four overs, conceded 22. He picked up a wicket.

Chawla and Harris bowled four overs each, picking up a couple of scalps apiece. While the former conceded 37, the latter conceded 33.

The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 24, and lost a wicket.

Gilchrist, who faced a couple of balls, failed to get off the mark. Five balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Harbhajan Singh, who broke the one-run stand.

KXIP scored 50 off 8.5 overs (53 balls). MI had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 48 balls. While Valthaty’s contribution to the partnership was 21, Shaun Marsh’s contribution to it was 26. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was half-a-dozen.

Valthaty, whose 38-ball innings included a boundary and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 33. Sixty balls after Gilchrist’s dismissal, he was caught by Pollard. Symonds broke the 72-run partnership.

From the 12th over, Rayudu kept wicket, replacing Jacobs.

Hussey, who faced five balls, scored a run. Nine balls later, he was caught by Rohit. Munaf Patel broke the six-run stand.

Karthik, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Half-a-dozen balls later, he was trapped leg be‘four’ wicket by Pollard.

KXIP scored 100 off 15 overs (90 balls). MI had conceded 10 extras at that point.

Nayar, whose nine-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 14. Sixteen balls later, he was caught by Symonds. Harbhajan broke the 30-run stand.

Bipul, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Four balls later, Lasith Malinga broke the three-run stand.

Marsh’s half-century – which included eight boundaries – came off 39 balls.

He eventually scored 61 off 47 balls. Thirteen balls after Bipul’s dismissal, he was caught by Tendulkar. Malinga broke the 15-run stand.

Chawla, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, was unbea‘ten’.

Harris, who faced a couple of balls, scored a run. A couple of balls after Marsh’s dismissal, he was caught by Pollard. Patel broke the one-run stand.

Praveen, who faced three balls, scored a couple. He was unbeaten.

MI eventually conceded a dozen extras. KXIP, who scored 136 for the loss of eight wickets off 20 overs, lost by 23 runs.

Suman, who bowled an over, conceded a dozen. He was wicketless, as was Abu Nechim, who bowled three overs, conceding 22.

Symonds, who bowled an over, conceded 11. He picked up a wicket, as did Pollard, who bowled three overs, conceding 18.

Harbhajan, Malinga and Patel bowled four overs each, picking up a couple of scalps apiece. They conceded 25, 19, and 18, respectively.
