KXIP disappointed; Sehwag-led DD win

DD made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Shahbaz Nadeem and Ashok Dinda made way for Ajit Agarkar and Varun Aaron.

KXIP made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Ryan McLaren and Bhargav Bhatt made way for David Hussey and Shalabh Srivastava.

On winning the toss, Adam Gilchrist, KXIP’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of DD’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 70, without the loss of a wicket.

DD’s openers put on 50 off five overs (30 balls). KXIP had conceded four extras at that point. While the contribution of David Warner, the player of the match, to the partnership was 21, the contribution of Virender Sehwag, DD’s skipper, to it was 27.

Warner’s half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries and three sixes – came off 29 balls.

DD’s openers put on 100 off 8.4 overs (52 balls). KXIP had conceded 10 extras at that point. While Warner’s contribution to the partnership was 56, Sehwag’s contribution to it was 36.

Sehwag, whose 35-ball innings included the aforementioned number of boundaries, in addition to four sixes, eventually scored 77. Seventy balls into the match, he was caught by Dinesh Karthik. Hussey broke the 146-run partnership.

DD scored 150 off 12.2 overs (74 balls). KXIP had conceded 10 extras at that point.

Yogesh Nagar, whose nine-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 11. Fourteen balls after Sehwag’s dismissal, he was caught by Ryan Harris. Abhishek Nayar broke the 18-run stand.

Warner, whose 48-ball innings included seven boundaries and four sixes, eventually scored 77. Eleven balls later, he was caught by Harris. Praveen Kumar broke the 15-run stand.

Venugopal Rao, whose 15-ball innings included three boundaries and a six, scored 28. He was unbeaten.

Aaron Finch, who faced five balls, scored three. Seven balls after Warner’s dismissal, he was caught by Karthik. Piyush Chawla broke the five-run stand.

DD scored 200 off 18.3 overs (111 balls). KXIP had conceded 11 extras at that point.

Naman Ojha, whose eight-ball innings included a boundary and a couple of sixes, scored 19. He was unbeaten.

KXIP eventually conceded 16 extras. DD scored 231 for the loss of four wickets off 20 overs.

Paul Valthaty, who bowled an over, conceded 13. He was wicketless, as were Harris and Srivastava, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former conceded 48, the latter conceded 46.

Hussey, who bowled an over, conceded 19. He picked up a wicket.

Nayar, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 22. He picked up a wicket.

Kumar and Chawla bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 45, the latter conceded 36.

Valthaty, whose 10-ball innings included a couple of sixes, scored 14. Twenty-four balls into the chase, he was caught by Nagar. Irfan Pathan broke the 25-run stand.

KXIP scored 50 off 6.1 overs (39 balls). DD had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 27 balls. While the contribution of Adam Gilchrist, KXIP’s skipper, to the partnership was 14, Shaun Marsh’s contribution to it was 31. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a run.

Gilchrist, whose 33-ball innings included eight boundaries and a six, eventually scored 42. Forty balls later, Aaron broke the 72-run partnership.

KXIP scored 100 off 10.3 overs (65 balls). DD had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Karthik, whose five-ball innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen. Eleven balls after Gilchrist’s dismissal, he was caught by Sehwag. Agarkar broke the 20-run stand.

Marsh’s half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries and three sixes – came off 27 balls.

KXIP scored 150 off 15.1 overs (93 balls). DD had conceded three extras at that point.

Hussey, whose 10-ball innings included a couple of sixes, scored 20. Nineteen balls after Karthik’s dismissal, he was caught by Sehwag. James Hopes broke the 36-run stand.

Marsh, whose 46-ball innings included nine boundaries and half-a-dozen sixes, eventually scored 95. Fourteen balls later, he was caught by Sehwag. Morne Morkel broke the 31-run stand.

Abhishek Nayar, whose 13-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 17. He was unbeaten.

Sunny Singh, who faced four balls, scored a couple. Nine balls after Marsh’s dismissal, he was caught by Hopes. Agarkar broke the 11-run stand.

Ryan Harris, who faced a ball, scored a run. He was unbeaten.

KXIP scored 200 off 19.4 overs (120 balls). DD had conceded four extras at that point.

DD eventually conceded five extras. KXIP, who scored 202 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 20 overs, lost by 29 runs.

Nagar bowled a wicketless over, conceding 16.

Pathan bowled three overs, including a maiden. He conceded 26, picking up a wicket.

Hopes, Aaron and Morkel bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. They conceded 43, 36, and 32, respectively.
