Tendulkar-led MI beat Chennai narrowly

MI made one change to their playing eleven – Abu Nechim made way for Harbhajan Singh, the player of the match.

CSK (Shar)made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Shadab Jakati and Tim Southee made way for Joginder and Suraj Randiv.

On winning the toss, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 40, and lost a couple of wickets.

Rajagopal Sathish had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he didn’t get off the mark. (Srikkan)Thirteen balls into the match, he was caught by Anirudha. Albie Morkel broke the nine-run stand.

Tendulkar, whose eight-ball (Sach)innings included a boundary, scored five. Nine balls later, he was caught by Michael Hussey. Doug Bollinger broke the four-run stand.

MI scored 50 off 7.2 overs (44 balls). CSK had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point.

The third-wicket pair put on 50 off 34 balls. While Ambati Rayudu’s contribution to the partnership was 17, Rohit Sharma’s contribution to it was 31. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was three.

Ambati Rayudu, whose 29-ball innings included four boundaries, scored 27. Forty-five balls after Tendulkar’s dismissal, he was stumped by Dhoni. Randiv broke the 61-run partnership.

MI scored 100 off 14.1 overs (85 balls). CSK had conceded 11 extras at that point.

Rohit’s half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 31 balls.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 29 balls. While Rohit’s contribution to the partnership was 30, Andrew Symonds’ contribution to it was 18. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

MI scored 150 off 18.2 overs (110 balls). CSK had conceded 11 extras at that point.

Rohit, whose 48-ball innings included eight boundaries and five sixes, eventually scored 87. Forty-nine balls after Rayudu’s dismissal, he was caught by Hussey. Bollinger broke the 87-run partnership.

Symonds, whose 26-ball innings included a boundary and a couple of sixes, eventually scored 31. He was unbeaten, as was Kieron Pollard, who faced a couple of balls, failing to get off the mark.

CSK eventually conceded 14 extras. MI, who scored 164 for the loss of four wickets off 20 overs.

Suresh Raina, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded 22.

Joginder, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 34.

Ravichandran Ashwin, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 26.

Randiv, who bowled three overs, conceded 31. He picked up a wicket, as did Morkel, who bowled four overs, including a maiden. He conceded 19.

Bollinger, who bowled four overs, conceded 30. He picked up a couple of scalps.

Anirudha, whose run-a-ball innings included a six, scored nine. Twenty-two balls later, he was caught by Sathish. Harbhajan broke the 22-run stand.

Badrinath’s half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries and a six – came off 37 balls.

He eventually scored 71 off 48 balls, which included seven boundaries and a couple of sixes, and was unbeaten.

Morkel, who faced three balls, scored four. Eight balls after Badrinath’s dismissal, Harbhajan broke the 13-run stand.

The seventh-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Ashwin, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t open his account. A couple of balls later, he was caught by Pollard off the bowling of Harbhajan.

Joginder, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. A couple of balls later, he was caught by Harbhajan, who broke the one-run stand.

Randiv, who faced four balls, scored a couple. Five balls later, he was caught by Sathish. Malinga broke the three-run stand.

CSK scored 150 off 19.4 overs (119 balls). MI had conceded 10 extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Bollinger, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. He was unbeaten.

CSK, who scored 156 for the loss of nine wickets off 20 overs, lost by eight runs.

Rohit and Sathish bowled a wicketless over apiece. While the former conceded 15, the latter conceded 13.

Abu Nechim, who bowled a couple of wicketless overs, conceded 19.

Patel and Pollard bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece. While the former conceded 40, the latter conceded 30.

Malinga, who bowled four overs, conceded 20. He picked up two wickets.
