CSK made a couple of changes to their playing (Micha)eleven – Hussey and Wriddhiman Saha made way for Faf du Plessis and Ravindra Jadeja.
MI made three changes to their playing (Pat)eleven – Aiden Blizzard, Rajagopal
Sathish and Munaf made way for Richard Levi (the player of the match), Dinesh Karthik
and Pragyan Ojha.
On winning the toss, Harbhajan Singh, MI’s skipper, chose to field.
The first Powerplay of CSK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 42, and lost a couple
of wickets.
CSK’s openers put on four. Du Plessis, who faced a couple of balls,
scored three. Four balls into the match, Ambati Rayudu ran him out.
Murali Vijay, whose 17-ball (Frankl)innings included a boundary, scored
10. Thirty-one balls later, he was caught by Harbhajan. James broke the 34-run
stand.
CSK scored 50 off 7.3 overs (45 balls). MI had conceded nine extras at
that point.
Suresh Raina, whose 26-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and
a six, scored (Lasi)thirty-six. Twenty-four balls after Vijay’s dismissal, he
was caught by Malinga. Ojha broke the 37-run stand.
Dwayne, whose run-a-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 19.
Nine balls later, he was caught by Kieron Pollard. Ojha Br(av)oke the eight-run
stand.
Albie Morkel, who faced eight balls, scored three. Eight balls later, he
was caught by Ojha. Pollard broke the five-run stand.
The sixth-wicket pair put on 10. Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who faced
half-a-dozen balls, scored four. Fifteen balls later, Abu Nechim and Karthik
ran him out.
Subramaniam Badrinath, who faced 16 balls, scored 10. Half-a-dozen balls
later, he was caught by Harbhajan. Pollard broke the four-run stand.
CSK scored 100 off 16.2 overs (98 balls). MI had conceded a dozen extras
at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually
conceded.
The eighth-wicket pair put on four. Ashwin, who faced five balls, scored
three. Half-a-dozen balls after Badrinath’s dismissal, Harbhajan and Karthik (Ravichand)ran
him out.
Jadeja, who faced five balls, scored three. Five balls later, Malinga
broke the one-run stand.
Shadab Jakati, who scored half-a-dozen, was unbea‘ten’.
Doug Bollinger, who faced five balls, scored three. Eleven balls after Jadeja’s
dismissal, he was caught by Rohit Sharma. Malinga broke the eight-run stand.
CSK were bundled out for 112 off 19.5 overs.
Nechim, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 17. He was wicketless, as
was Harbhajan, who bowled four overs, conceding 24.
Franklin, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 18. He picked up a
wicket.
Malinga, who bowled 3.5 overs, conceded 16. He picked up a couple of
scalps, as did Ojha and Pollard, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former
conceded 17, the latter conceded 15.
The first Powerplay of MI’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 53, without the loss of
a wicket.
MI’s openers put on 50 off half-a-dozen overs (36 balls). CSK had
conceded three extras at that point. While Levi’s contribution to the
partnership was 37, Sachin Tendulkar’s contribution to it was 13.
Levi’s half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries and three
sixes – came off 34 balls.
He eventually faced 35 balls, failing to add to the aforementioned score.
Forty-seven balls into the chase, he was caught by Bollinger. Bravo broke the
69-run partnership.
Sharma, who faced three balls, failed to get off the mark. Four balls
later, he was caught by Dhoni. Bollinger broke the one-run stand.
Nine overs into the chase, Tendulkar – who was batting on 16 – retired hurt.
MI had scored 72 for the loss of a couple of wickets at that point.
The Little Master, whose 15-ball innings included a boundary and a six, didn’t
add to the aforementioned score.
MI scored 100 off 15 overs (90 balls). CSK had conceded five extras at
that point.
Rayudu, whose run-a-ball innings included a six, scored 18. He was
unbeaten, as was Franklin, who scored 25 off 30 balls, which included a couple
of boundaries.
CSK eventually conceded half-a-dozen extras. MI, who scored 115 for the
loss of a couple of wickets off 16.5 overs, won by eight wickets with 19 balls
to spare.
Jadeja and Bravo bowled a wicketless over apiece. While the former
conceded 16, the latter conceded eight.
Morkel and Ashwin bowled four wicketless overs each, conceding 20
apiece.
Bravo, who bowled three overs, conceded 14. He picked up a scalp, as did
Bollinger, who bowled 3.5 overs, conceding 34.
