M S-led CSK trounce Bangalore

Neither CSK nor RCB made any changes to their playing eleven.

On winning the toss, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of CSK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 56, without the loss of a wicket.

CSK’s openers put on 50 off 5.1 overs (31 balls). RCB had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point. While Michael Hussey’s contribution to the partnership was 23, the contribution of Murali Vijay, the player of the match, to it was 25.

Vijay’s half-century – which included a couple of boundaries and three sixes – came off 29 balls.

CSK’s openers put on 100 off 10.3 overs (63 balls). RCB had conceded half-a-dozen extras at that point. While Hussey’s contribution to the partnership was 44, Vijay’s contribution to it was 50.

Hussey’s half-century – which included three boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 40 balls.

CSK’s openers put on 150 off 14.2 overs (86 balls). The number of extras they had conceded at that point gave RCB no reason to be in seventh heaven. While Hussey’s contribution to the partnership was 63, Vijay’s contribution to it was 80.

Hussey, whose 45-ball innings included three boundaries, in addition to the three sixes, didn’t add to the aforementioned score. Eighty-nine balls into the match, he was caught by Abhimanyu Mithun. Syed Mohammad broke the 159-run partnership.

Vijay, whose 52-ball innings included four boundaries and half-a-dozen sixes, eventually scored 95. Twenty balls later, he was caught by Daniel Vettori, RCB’s skipper. Sreenath Aravind broke the 29-run stand.

The third-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Dhoni, whose 13-ball innings included a couple of sixes, eventually scored 22. The next ball, he was caught by Virat Kohli off the bowling of Aravind.

Suresh Raina, whose five-ball innings included a six, scored eight. Eight balls later, Chris Gayle – who won the player of the series award, in addition to holding the Orange Cap – broke the 11-run stand.

The fifth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Albie Morkel, who faced four balls, scored a couple. The next ball, he was caught by Kohli off the bowling of Gayle.

Subramaniam Badrinath, who didn’t face a ball, was unbeaten, as was Dwayne Bravo, who faced a ball, scoring a six.

CSK scored 200 off 20 overs (120 balls). In fact, they scored 205 for the loss of five wickets off 20 overs. RCB had conceded nine extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Mithun, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 22. He was wicketless, as were Vettori and Zaheer Khan, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former conceded 34, the latter conceded 30.

Syed Mohammad, who bowled three overs, conceded 39. He picked up a wicket.

Aravind, who bowled three overs, conceded 39. He picked up a couple of scalps, as did Gayle, who bowled four overs, conceding 34.

The first Powerplay of RCB’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 47, and lost a couple of wickets.

Gayle, who faced three balls, didn’t get off the mark. Four balls into the chase, he was caught by Dhoni. Ravichandran Ashwin broke the one-run stand.

Mayank Agarwal, whose five-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 10. Eleven balls later, Ashwin broke the 15-run stand.

RCB scored 50 off seven overs (42 balls). CSK had conceded an extra at that point.

A B de Villiers, whose 12-ball innings included three boundaries, scored 18. Twenty-four balls after Agarwal’s dismissal, Shadab Jakati broke the 32-run stand.

Luke Pomersbach, who faced three balls, scored a couple. A dozen balls later, he was caught by Jakati, who broke the 14-run stand.

Saurabh Tiwary, whose 34-ball innings included a boundary and three sixes, scored 42. He was unbeaten.

Kohli, whose 32-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 35. Nine balls later, Raina had a reason to be in seventh heaven – he trapped him leg before wicket.

Vettori, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. A couple of balls later, he was caught by Ashwin, who broke the one-run stand.

Mithun, whose eight-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 11. Sixteen balls later, he was caught by Doug Bollinger. Bravo broke the 22-run stand.

RCB scored 100 off 14.4 overs (89 balls). CSK had conceded five extras at that point.

Khan, whose run-a-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 21. Twenty-five balls after Mithun’s dismissal, he was caught by Hussey. Bollinger broke the 38-run stand.

Syed Mohammad, who faced a couple of balls, scored as many.

CSK eventually conceded half-a-dozen extras. RCB, who scored 147 for the loss of eight wickets off 20 overs, lost by 58 runs.
