MI made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Tirumalasetti
Suman and Dhawal Kulkarni made way for Rajagopal Sathish and Abu Nechim.
On winning the toss, Sachin Tendulkar, MI’s skipper, chose to field.
The first Powerplay of RCB’s innings – which was
the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 68, without
the loss of a wicket.
RCB’s openers put on 50 off 3.2 overs (20 balls). MI had conceded eight extras
at that point. While Mayank Agarwal’s contribution to the partnership was 15, the
contribution of Chris Gayle, the player of the match, to it was 29.
Gayle’s half-century – which included nine boundaries and a six – came off
27 balls.
RCB’s openers put on 100 off nine overs (54 balls). MI had conceded nine
extras at that point. While Agarwal’s contribution to the partnership was 38, Gayle’s
contribution to it was 53.
Agarwal, whose 31-ball innings included four boundaries and a couple of
sixes, eventually scored 41. Sixty-four balls into the (Shar)match, he was
caught by Rohit. Kieron Pollard broke the 113-run partnership.
Gayle, whose 47-ball (Frankl)innings included the aforementioned number
of boundaries, in addition to five sixes, eventually scored 89. Twenty-four
balls later, he was caught by James. Munaf Patel broke the 35-run stand.
RCB scored 150 off 15 overs (90 balls). MI had conceded 11 extras at
that point.
Virat Kohli, who faced a dozen balls, scored eight. Four balls after
Gayle’s dismissal, Nechim broke the three-run stand.
A B de Villiers, whose 15-ball innings included a six, scored 21. He was
unbeaten.
Luke Pomersbach, who faced four balls, scored as many. Half-a-dozen balls later, he was caught by Lasith Malinga (incidentally, the second overseas player to win the Purple Cap). Patel broke the run-a-ball stand.
Saurabh Tiwary, who faced a dozen balls, scored eight. He was unbeaten.
MI eventually conceded 14 extras. RCB scored 185 for the loss of four wickets
off 20 overs.
Sharma, who bowled an over, conceded 14. He was wicketless, as were
Harbhajan Singh and Malinga, who bowled four overs apiece. While the former
conceded 40, the latter conceded 24.
Pollard, who bowled three overs, conceded 24. He picked up a wicket, as
did Nechim, who bowled four overs, conceding 56.
Patel, who bowled four overs, conceded 27. He picked up a couple of
scalps.

reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored 13. Ten balls later, he was caught
by Pomersbach. Aravind broke the 18-run stand.
MI scored 50 off half-a-dozen overs (36 balls). RCB had conceded an extra
at that point.
Tendulkar, whose 24-ball innings included seven boundaries, scored 40.
Seventeen balls later, he was stumped by de Villiers. Syed Mohammad broke the
27-run stand.
Sharma, whose 15-ball innings included a boundary, scored 13. Sixteen
balls later, he was caught by Pomersbach. Daniel Vettori, RCB’s skipper, broke
the 14-run stand.
Ambati Rayudu, who faced a ball, failed to get off the mark. A couple of
balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Vettori, who broke the one-run
stand.
Pollard, who faced half-a-dozen balls, scored three. Eleven balls later,
he was caught by Abhimanyu Mithun. Vettori broke the six-run stand.
Franklin, whose 17-ball innings included a six, scored 16. Eleven balls
later, Zaheer Khan broke the 10-run stand.
MI scored 100 off 14.5 overs (89 balls). RCB had conceded a couple of extras
at that point.
Sathish, whose 21-ball innings included a six, scored 18. He was
unbeaten.
Although his five-ball innings included a six, Malinga had no reason to
be in seventh heaven – seven balls later, he was caught by Pomersbach. Syed Mohammad
broke the 11-run stand.
Nechim, whose 13-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 18.
He was unbeaten.
RCB eventually conceded four extras. MI, who scored 142 for the loss of
eight wickets off 20 overs, lost by 43 runs.
Mithun, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded 26. He was wicketless, as
was Gayle, who bowled three overs, conceding 11.
Khan, who bowled four overs, conceded 32. He picked up a wicket.
Aravind, who bowled three overs, conceded 27. He picked up a couple of
wickets, as was Mohammad, who bowled four overs, conceding 25.
Vettori, who bowled four overs, conceded 19. He picked up three scalps.
