MI made three changes to their playing (Pat)eleven – Rajagopal Sathish, Abu Nechim and Lasith Malinga made way for Aiden Blizzard, Dhawal Kulkarni and Munaf (the player of the match).
KKR made no changes to their playing eleven.
On winning the toss, Sachin Tendulkar, MI’s skipper, chose to field.
The first Powerplay of KKR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 25, and lost four
wickets.
Although his run-a-ball innings included a boundary, Jacques Kallis had
no reason to be in seventh heaven – 10 balls into the match, he was caught by
Sachin Tendulkar. Patel broke the nine-run stand.
Gautam Gambhir, KKR’s skipper, scored four. His eight-ball innings
included a boundary. Harbhajan Singh had a reason to be in seventh heaven – he broke
the four-run stand.
Shreevats Goswami, who faced three balls, didn’t get off the mark. Three
balls later, he was caught by Ambati Rayudu. Patel broke the two-run stand.
Manoj Tiwary had no reason to be in seventh heaven – 13 balls later, he
was trapped leg be‘four’ wicket by Kulkarni, who broke the five-run stand.
KKR scored 50 off 10.3 overs (63 balls). MI had conceded a couple of
extras at that point.
The fifth-wicket pair put on 50 off 37 balls. While Yusuf Pathan’s contribution
to the partnership was 15, Ryan ten Doeschate’s contribution to it was 36.
Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.
Pathan, whose 24-ball innings included three boundaries, eventually scored
26. Forty-five balls after Tiwary’s dismissal, he was caught by Kieron Pollard.
Patel broke the 60-run partnership.

Ten Doeschate’s half-century – which included four boundaries and a
couple of sixes – came off 40 balls.
He eventually scored 70 off 49 balls, which included half-a-dozen boundaries
and three sixes. He was unbeaten.
Shakib Al Hasan, whose 16-ball innings included four boundaries, scored
26. Twenty-five balls after Pathan’s dismissal, Lasith Malinga broke the 41-run
stand.
The seventh-wicket pair put on 10. Rajat Bhatia, who faced three balls,
scored a couple. Seven balls later, Rohit Sharma and Kulkarni ran him out.
Brett Lee, who faced three balls, scored a couple. He was unbeaten.
MI eventually conceded half-a-dozen extras. KKR scored 147 for the loss
of seven wickets off 20 overs.
James Franklin, who bowled an over, conceded 10. He was wicketless, as
was Pollard, who bowled three overs, conceding 31.
Kulkarni, Harbhajan and Malinga bowled four overs each, picking up a
wicket apiece. They conceded 32, 26, and 19, respectively.
Patel, who bowled four overs, conceded 27. He picked up three scalps.

scored 36. Fifteen balls later, he was caught by Tiwary. Kallis broke the
10-run stand.

Kallis broke the 11-run stand.
Pollard, who faced five balls, scored three. Seventeen balls later, he
was trapped leg before wicket by Shakib, who broke the 20-run stand.
Tirumalasetti Suman had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored
just a couple. Fourteen balls later, he was caught by Tiwary. Shakib broke the
10-run stand.
Harbhajan, whose five-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored
11. He was unbeaten.
KKR eventually conceded four extras. MI, who scored 148 for the loss of
half-a-dozen wickets off 19.2 overs, lost by four wickets with four balls to
spare.
Bhatia, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded nine.
Pathan and Lakshmipathy Balaji bowled a couple of wicketless overs
apiece. While the former conceded 18, the latter conceded 16.
Abdulla, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 23.
Lee, who bowled four overs, conceded 37. He picked up a wicket.
Shakib, who bowled 3.2 overs, conceded 24. He picked up a couple of
scalps, as did Kallis, who bowled four overs, conceding 18.
