Gilchrist shines; KXIP beat Chennai

KXIP made three changes to their playing eleven – Shaun Marsh, David Miller and Harmeet Singh made way for Adam Gilchrist (who was leading the match, and chose to field on winning the toss, and eventually won the player of the match award), Siddharth Chitnis and Ryan Harris.

CSK made a couple of changes to their playing (Mork)eleven – Faf du Plessis and Shadab Jakati made way for Albie and Yo Mahesh.

The first Powerplay of CSK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 25, and lost a couple of wickets.

Murali Vijay, whose 14-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 10. Three overs into the match, he was caught by Gilchrist. Praveen Kumar broke the 17-run stand.

Although his 10-ball innings included a boundary, Michael Hussey had no reason to be in seventh heaven – nine balls later, he was caught by Gilchrist. Praveen broke the three-run stand.

Suresh Raina, whose 13-ball innings included a couple of sixes, scored 17. Nineteen balls later, he was caught by Gilchrist. Azhar Mahmood broke the 22-run stand.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, whose 16-ball innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen. Sixteen balls later, he was caught by Nitin. Parvinder Awana broke the four-run stand.

CSK scored 50 off 11.1 overs (67 balls). KXIP had conceded three extras at that point.

Ravindra Jadeja, whose 14-ball innings included a couple of boundaries, scored 13. Thirty-two balls after Dhoni’s dismissal, he was caught by Saini. Awana broke the run-a-ball stand.

CSK scored 100 off 17.5 overs (107 balls). KXIP had conceded three extras at that point.

Morkel, whose eight-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 14. Nineteen balls after Jadeja’s dismissal, he was caught by Praveen. Mahmood broke the 34-run stand.

Bravo, whose 43-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and three sixes, scored 48. Half-a-dozen balls later, he was caught by Gilchrist. Needless to say, Harris was in seventh heaven.

Both Srikkanth Anirudha and Ravichandran Ashwin faced a ball apiece, and were unbeaten. While the former conceded a run, the latter didn’t get off the mark.

KXIP eventually conceded four extras. CSK scored 120 for the loss of seven wickets off 20 overs.

Piyush Chawla, who bowled an over, conceded a dozen. He was wicketless, as was David Hussey, who bowled three overs, conceding 23.

Harris, who bowled four overs, conceded 24. He picked up a wicket.

Mahmood, Praveen and Awana bowled four overs each, picking up a couple of scalps apiece. They conceded 28, 18, and a dozen, respectively.

The first Powerplay of KXIP’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 43, without the loss of a wicket.

KXIP’s openers put on 50 off 6.3 overs (39 balls). CSK had conceded four extras at that point. While the Gilchrist’s contribution to the partnership was 23, Mandeep Singh’s contribution to it was 24.

Mandeep, whose 21-ball innings included five boundaries, didn’t add to the aforementioned score. Forty-one balls into the chase, he was caught by Morkel, who broke the 51-run stand.

Saini, who faced four balls, scored a run. (Dho)Nine balls later, he was caught behind. Bravo broke the four-run stand.

David, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary, scored nine. A dozen balls later, he was caught by Dhoni. Bravo broke the 14-run stand.

KXIP scored 100 off 14.2 overs (86 balls). CSK had conceded five extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Siddharth Chitnis, whose 12-ball innings included a boundary, scored 11. Twenty-nine balls after David’s dismissal, he was caught by Dhoni. Ben Hilfenhaus broke the 45-run stand.

Gilchrist’s half-century – which included eight boundaries and a six – came off 42 balls.

He eventually scored 64 off 46 balls, which included nine boundaries and a couple of sixes. He was unbeaten, as was Mahmood, who scored nine. His seven-ball innings included a couple of boundaries.

KXIP, who scored 123 for the loss of four wickets off 16.3 overs, lost by six wickets with 21 balls to spare.

Yo Mahesh bowled a couple of overs, conceding 27. He was wicketless, as was Ashwin, who bowled four overs, conceding 27.

Morkel bowled 3.3 overs, conceding 28. He picked up a wicket, as did Hilfenhaus, who bowled four overs, conceding 20.

Bravo bowled three overs, conceding 18. He picked up a couple of scalps.
