KKR made a couple of changes to their playing eleven – Laxmi Ratan
Shukla and Marchant de Lange made way for Shakib Al Hasan and Iqbal Abdulla.
On winning the toss, Harbhajan Singh, MI’s skipper, chose to field.
The first Powerplay of KKR’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay
– was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 32, and lost a couple
of wickets.
Brendon McCullum, who faced five balls, scored a run. Eight balls later,
he was trapped leg before wicket by Rudra Pratap Singh, who broke the six-run
stand.
The second-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Jacques Kallis, who
faced a ball, didn’t open his account. The next ball, he was dismissed by Rudra
Pratap.
Gautam Gambhir, KKR’s skipper, scored 27 off 23 balls, which included
three boundaries and a six. Forty-two balls later, Kieron Pollard broke the
38-run stand.
KKR scored 50 off 9.3 overs (57 balls). MI had conceded four extras at
that point.
Shakib, whose 12-ball innings included a boundary, scored (Smi)thirteen.
Twenty-nine balls later, Dwayne broke the 45-run stand.
Manoj Tiwary, whose 43-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and
as many sixes, scored 41. Five balls later, he was caught by Lasith Malinga.
Munaf Patel broke the two-run stand.
Yusuf Pathan, whose run-a-ball innings included a couple of boundaries,
scored 21. He was unbeaten.
The sixth-wicket pair put on five. Debabrata Das, who faced three balls,
scored a couple. Nine balls after Tiwary’s dismissal, Harbhajan and Smith ran
him out.
KKR scored 100 off 15.5 overs (95 balls). MI had conceded eight extras
at that point.
Although his innings included a couple of boundaries, Rajat Bhatia, who
scored a dozen, had no reason to be in seventh heaven – 15 balls after Das’
dismissal, he was caught by Dinesh Karthik. Malinga broke the 29-run stand.
Sunil, the player of the match, scored N(ar)ine, and was unbeaten. His
six-ball innings included a couple of boundaries.
MI eventually conceded 14 extras. KKR scored 140 for the loss of seven
wickets off 20 overs.
Harbhajan, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 24.
Smith, who bowled a couple of overs, conceded eight. He picked up a
wicket.
Pollard, who bowled three overs, conceded 20. He picked up a wicket.
Malinga and Patel bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece.
While the former conceded 32, the latter conceded 17.

Pollard, whose five-ball innings included a boundary, scored eight.
Seven balls later, he was caught by McCullum. Kallis broke the 13-run stand.

balls later, he was caught by Tiwary. Balaji broke the four-run stand.
The last-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Rudra Pratap, who faced
five balls, scored three. The next ball, he was caught by Abdulla off the bowling
of Narine.
Patel, who didn’t face a ball, was unbeaten.
MI, who were dismissed for 108 off 19.1 overs, lost by 32 runs.
Shakib and Abdulla bowled four overs each, picking up a wicket apiece.
While the former conceded 25, the latter conceded 23.
Kallis and Balaji bowled four overs each, picking up a couple of wickets
apiece. While the former conceded 32, the latter conceded 11.
Narine, who bowled 3.1 overs, conceded 15. He picked up four scalps.
