Kohli delighted; RCB beat Delhi

DD made a couple of changes to their playing (Mork)eleven – Virender Sehwag and Morne made way for Unmukt Chand and Andre Russell.

RCB made one change to their playing eleven – K P Appanna made way for Prasanth Parameswaran.

On winning the toss, Mahela Jayawardene, DD’s skipper, chose to field.

The first Powerplay of RCB’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 42, and lost a wicket.

Although his innings included a couple of boundaries, Tillakaratne Dilshan had no reason to be in seventh heaven – he scored 10. Fourteen balls into the match, he was caught by Irfan Pathan. Aaron broke the 11-(Va)run stand.

RCB scored 50 off 6.5 overs (42 balls). DD had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 33 balls. While the contribution of Chris Gayle, the player of the match, to the partnership was 24, the contribution of Virat Kohli, RCB’s skipper, to it was 25. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

RCB scored 100 off 12.2 overs (75 balls). DD had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Gayle’s half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries and three sixes – came off 37 balls.

The second-wicket pair put on 100 off 68 balls. While Gayle’s contribution to the partnership was 65, Kohli’s contribution to it was 38. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

RCB scored 150 off 15.3 overs (94 balls). DD had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Gayle’s ton – which included seven boundaries and nine sixes – came off 53 balls.

Kohli’s half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries – came off 41 balls.

RCB scored 200 off 18.5 overs (115 balls). DD had conceded four extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

The second-wicket pair put on 200 off 106 balls. While Gayle’s contribution to the partnership was 127, Kohli’s contribution to it was 69. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was four.

Gayle, whose 62-ball innings included the aforementioned number of boundaries, in addition to 13 sixes, eventually scored 128. He was unbeaten, as was Kohli, who eventually scored 73. His 53-ball innings included nine boundaries and a six.

RCB scored 215 for the loss of a wicket off 20 overs.

Venugopal Rao, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded 13.

Pawan Negi, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 37.

Pathan, Umesh Yadav (whose spell included a maiden) and Russell bowled four wicketless overs apiece. They conceded 44, 42, and 41, respectively.

Aaron, who bowled four overs, conceded 38. He picked up the only wicket to fall.

The first Powerplay of DD’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 51, and lost a couple of wickets.

David Warner, whose nine-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 15. Ten balls into the chase, he was caught by Vinay Kumar. Zaheer Khan broke the 17-run stand.

Chand, whose 10-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 18. Sixteen balls later, he was caught by Harshal Patel. Vinay broke the 28-run stand.

DD scored 50 off 5.4 overs (34 balls). RCB had conceded an extra at that point.

Jayawardene, who faced 14 balls, scored nine. Twenty-three balls after Chand’s dismissal, he was caught by A B de Villiers. Parameswaran broke the 24-run stand.

DD scored 100 off 10.4 overs (64 balls). RCB had conceded an extra at that point.

Rao, whose 24-ball innings included four boundaries and a six, scored 36. Twenty balls after Jayawardene’s dismissal, he was caught by Patel. Muttiah Muralitharan broke the 38-run stand.

Ross Taylor’s half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 22 balls.

DD scored 150 off 15.3 overs (93 balls). RCB had conceded five extras at that point.

Naman Ojha, whose 12-ball innings included a boundary, scored 13. Twenty-five balls after Rao’s dismissal, he was caught by Saurabh Tiwary. Khan broke the 44-run stand.

Taylor, whose 26-ball innings included seven boundaries, in addition to the aforementioned number of sixes, eventually scored 55. Four balls later, he was caught by Mayank Agarwal. Vinay broke the eight-run stand.

Pathan, who faced four balls, scored as many. Nine balls later, he was caught by Dilshan. Khan broke the 12-run stand.

Russell, whose 15-ball innings included a boundary and three sixes, scored 31. Ten balls later, he was caught by Kohli. Parameswaran broke the 21-run stand.

Negi, whose four-ball innings included a boundary, scored half-a-dozen. He was unbeaten.

Yadav, who faced a couple of balls, didn’t get off the mark. A couple of balls after Russell’s dismissal, he was caught by Tiwary. Parameswaran broke the run-a-ball stand.

The number of extras they eventually conceded gave RCB no reason to be in seventh heaven. DD, who scored 194 for the loss of nine wickets off 20 overs, lost by 21 runs.

Dilshan bowled an over, conceding 11. He was wicketless, as was Patel, who bowled four overs, conceding 33.

Muralitharan bowled four overs, conceding 44. He picked up a wicket.

Vinay bowled four overs, conceding 35. He picked up a couple of wickets.

Parameswaran bowled three overs, conceding 30. He picked up three scalps, as did Zaheer, who bowled four overs, conceding 38.
