Dhoni delighted; CSK beat Punjab

CSK made no changes to their playing eleven.

KXIP made a couple of (Pomersba)changes to their playing eleven – Manan Vohra and Azhar Mahmood made way for Luke and Rajagopal Sathish.

On winning the toss, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK’s skipper, chose to bat.

The first Powerplay of CSK’s innings – which was the mandatory Powerplay – was between the first and the sixth over. They scored 36, and lost a wicket.

Wriddhiman Saha, whose run-a-ball innings included a boundary and a six, scored 18. Twenty-three balls into the match, he was caught by Shaun Marsh. Parvinder Awana broke the 27-run stand.

CSK scored 50 off as many balls (8.2 overs). KXIP had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

The second-wicket pair put on 50 off 40 balls. While Michael Hussey’s contribution to the partnership was 24, the contribution of Suresh Raina, the player of the match, to it was 26. Extras’ contribution to the partnership was a couple.

Michael Hussey, whose 29-ball innings included three boundaries, eventually scored 35. Forty-four balls after Saha’s dismissal, he was stumped by Gurkeerat Singh Mann. Piyush Chawla broke the 55-run partnership.

The third-wicket pair put on 10. Dhoni, whose faced a couple of balls, scored a run. Half-a-dozen balls later, Sathish and Mann ran him out.

CSK scored 100 off 13.1 overs (79 balls). KXIP had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Raina’s half-century – which included five boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 32 balls.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 27 balls. While Raina’s contribution to the partnership was 39, Albie Morkel’s contribution to it was a dozen. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

CSK scored 150 off 17 overs (102 balls). KXIP had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Albie, whose 16-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, eventually scored 23. Thirty-eight balls after Dhoni’s dismissal, he was caught by David Miller. Awana broke the 74-run partnership.

Raina’s ton – which included seven boundaries and half-a-dozen sixes – came off 53 balls. He was unbeaten, as was Ravindra Jadeja, who scored five off a couple of balls, which included a boundary.

KXIP eventually conceded three extras. CSK scored 186 for the loss of four wickets off 20 overs.

Manpreet Gony and Sathish bowled a couple of wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 29, the latter conceded 26.

Praveen Kumar and David Hussey, KXIP’s skipper, bowled four wicketless overs apiece. While the former conceded 38, the latter conceded 31.

Chawla, who bowled four overs, conceded 32. He picked up a wicket.

Awana, who bowled four overs, conceded 29. He picked up a couple of scalps.

KXIP scored 50 off eight overs (48 balls). CSK had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

David Hussey, whose 16-ball innings included a couple of boundaries and a six, scored 22. Twenty-seven balls after Mandeep’s dismissal, he was caught by Dwayne Bravo. Ravichandran Ashwin broke the 37-run stand.

KXIP scored 100 off 12.3 overs (75 balls). CSK had conceded a couple of extras at that point.

Marsh’s half-century – which included half-a-dozen boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 34 balls.

The fourth-wicket pair put on 50 off 29 balls. While Marsh’s contribution to the partnership was 31, Miller’s contribution to it was 22. Extras didn’t contribute to the partnership.

KXIP scored 150 off 17.4 overs (106 balls). CSK had conceded three extras at that point. That was, incidentally, the number of extras they eventually conceded.

Miller’s half-century – which included five boundaries and a couple of sixes – came off 25 balls.

Marsh eventually scored 73 off 51 balls, which included eight boundaries, in addition to the aforementioned number of sixes. Fifty-two balls after David Hussey’s dismissal, Bravo broke the 95-run partnership.

Miller eventually scored 51 off 26 balls. He was unbeaten.

The fifth-wicket pair didn’t get off the mark. Mann, who faced a ball, didn’t open his account. A ball after Miller’s dismissal, he was caught by Michael Hussey off the bowling of Bravo.

Sathish, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. Three balls later, he was trapped leg before wicket by Bravo, who broke the run-a-ball stand.

Gony, who faced a ball, didn’t get off the mark. He was unbeaten.

KXIP, who scored 171 for the loss of half-a-dozen wickets off 20 overs, lost by 15 runs.

Raina, who bowled a wicketless over, conceded 19.

Chris Morris, who bowled three wicketless overs, conceded 31.

Albie, who bowled four wicketless overs, conceded 20.

Ashwin, who bowled four overs, conceded 33. He picked up a wicket.

Mohit, who bowled four overs, conceded 31. He picked up a couple of wickets.
